It seemed to me that the demons were on the defensive from the start of last quarter.
In the position they were in, it should have been attack, attack, attack.

e.g. go for it, die on your feet ...

High mark gamestyle isn't an issue in isolation.

Hawks and Cats very good at shifting the ball around by foot and controlling the footy. Our problem is nobody seems to have the license/belief to hit the tougher kicks on the 45/into the corridor that actually open the game up and can turn the chip chip into attack and open up the ground.

Chip chip is fine if you also know when to go quickly. We can chip our way up the ground and shift the other team's zone around if we are also fearless in giving the quick handball to Windsor and let him take on the tackler/burn around a guy and then kick to a 1-1 inside 50.

If you watch the good teams they can chip it around but are always looking for the opportunity to go quick and then back their forwards in 1-1.

Willing to hold fire until we see a couple of non-wet weather games, but the thing I didn't like was we went chip chip chip ummmmmm boundary.... So, agree we didn't seem to use the chipping around to our advantage very much. Maybe it's just a matter of breaking habits? Dunno.

This is bang on. There's a difference between a chip-mark game designed to attack (picking through a zone and then flicking the switch to attack via one-on-ones and lead-up forwards) and a chip-mark game designed to defend (which ends up looking like an end-of-game scenario where you're trying to hold possession, run clock and then bail out to the boundary line when needed).

Ours looks much more like the latter, which is pretty absurd/comical when you consider how bad we are at actual end-of-game scenarios.

If we're using chip-mark and not encouraging players to take the required risks, it's basically an admission that we don't have the skills needed to pull off those plays (in which case, it's completely the wrong gameplan to implement). If it's just because we want to be defensive and limit the opposition on the counter, then that's somehow more dull + doomed than our previous style.

Keen to see if it looks any different on the dry, fast surface of Marvel. If we're still being conservative, then we're not in a great way.

Forwards don't lead, and haven't for years so it doesn't matter what they do up the ground. Only time someone did Windsor hit the MAGICIAN on the tit. Nothing more infuriating than when we get a turnover and move it quickly and all the forwards are running backwards or standing still.

Think there are plenty of bad clubs that are often bad because their programs aren't demanding enough. But we've generally prided ourselves on our fitness so I do agree the margins between us and the Giants probably aren't massive. But yeah I do agree we rely too much on having Trac, Viney and Oliver in there all the time. Our recruiting would suggest we are trying to fix that with guys like Langford but it obviously isn't reflected in the games yet.
Yeah look I get that and there's fluctuation within such as Trac regardless of program is always gonna be fitter than someone not as disciplined and senior guys more than younger guys etc

As for everything else we are agreeing way too much so piss off flog that's not what this place is our about

How bad do we have to get before we can get rid of him? Too many good players keeping us competitive. It's turning me into one of those weird SEN dudes watching Melbourne play.
I think we'd have to be horrific unless he decides to walk. Like bottom 4 bad again.

If we are like ~10 again I bet he gets another year

Yeah I can't see them sacking him this year unless the wheels really fall off. We are still way too conservative as a club, I know they've removed some big backers of his but with his contact ending next year they'll at least hold our until then.

I just see that there's almost 0 criticism of him in the media and 0 talk or pressure. I can't see our club being pro active on sacking a premiership coach when no one is asking us too. Like I wouldn't even be surprised if we admitted we were re-building slightly and then wanted him to be the coach to do it. I don't think they'll sack him for underperformance I think they'll shift the goalposts for him

And that's the shit bit, if he goes really young this year at selection unless we somehow get a player revolt he will be untouchable.

Chris from Camberwell and Tom from Toorak are all we have as a voice for our frustration.
