I wonder if maybe a modern day coach is the go. Like he can be mentored by a Longmire or a Chris Scott for a year or 2 but then takes over as a sole senior coach in 2029.

I believe Chris Scott could be the man, Depends on how Geel go in the coming seasons. Worth looking at that’s for sure.

So Chris Scott as a Senior Coach.

Wonder what the coaching set-up could be?

Dean Cox, maybe?

I'm wondering if maybe there needs to a ex-player who was born in Tassie to be in the coaching group, Toby Nankervis or Ben Brown comes to mind. Or maybe best afield.

Grant Birchall, Brendan Bolton.

I would consider Luke Hodge
Hands off. He'll be in the Lions mix when Fagan retires to the Tassie devils. Hodges son goes to my grandsons high school (hes a fair footballers you'd expect) and Hodges whole family have made it quite clear they're not moving from brisvegas.

Money talks though so things could change. Fagan unsure if he is the man for tassie.

Caroline Wilson on inaugural Tassie coach.

She seems to think Gale and board are keen on having a coach by end of 2025/ early 2026.

Ideally we'd have the coach ready for the start of preseason heading into our VFL entry in 2026.

caro reprising old news again.

There is only one coach out there who's had to build a premiership winning culture from scratch, he's a local boy and available in 2027; but could walk sooner depending on circumstances. Chris Fagan come on down, no pun intended ;)

What promising assistant coaches wouldn't jump at the chance to work with him? And who better to get things off on the right foot and build a family club and winning culture to be proud of?

Those Brisbane players and staff adore him.

We may not yet be a destination club, but he is a destination coach; just ask Joe Daniher.

He will be pushing 70.

I can see Fages being involved in club but not as senior coach.
We need someone a little younger than he will be when Tassie come in.

i think he’s contracted until the end of the 2026 season. we’ll want someone in -place well before that. he may have a get-out clause in his contract of course. wouldn’t mind buckley. came close to a flag and would have learned a lot during his first stint.

Ageism in the AFL is so rife; he will be 66 in 2027, if he sees out that contract.

Alex Ferguson retired at 72, Wayne Bennet is 74, Belichick 71.

It's just so sad that amazing people hit a brick wall (he says he sees himself as a coach) when they hit a certain age.

The GWS Sheedy/Cameron arrangement seemed to work well, it was Sheedy that got Mark Williams up there.

It's more whether he will even want to be coaching still at that age. I think it would be good to have him in a backroom kind of roll rather than the inaugural coach.

If you say so but you did seem to write him off due to his age, not unusual in the AFL. I can't see him taking up a "backroom role" with us as he has been there and done that with Hawthorn for 8 years (4 premierships) and declared he sees himself as a coach.

It would be a big backward step for him.

I think if he doesn't coach, he will be given a godfather offer from the AFL to join head office. The guy has so much cachet with the entire AFL community, including the media, that he would be a perfect fit for any forward-facing roles in football operations.

His age does count against him a bit, but I can't see it likely that in four years time Fagan will be the inaugural coach of Tasmania unless he goes back to back premierships or something. It's a stressful job and he will be 67, if he gets a 3 year deal it will end when he is 70, most 70 year olds are retired.

As an older person myself I find your discrimination abhorrent as well as actually being completely illegal.

Who the hell do you think you are to tell others they have a use by date?

Who are you to judge what he can or can't do?

Disgusting.

"Direct discrimination happens when a person is treated less favourably because of his or her age than a person of another age would be treated in the same or similar circumstances."

So like a person like you might be a bit racist? Or a bit misogynistic? And that's OK? Seriously?

Perhaps you should tell your grandparents about your views on older citizens? You know the people who made this country?
