There was no looting, no lynchings, and they dispersed without much fuss. What they did do was not allow the opponent captain to speak to his adoring fans. Fans who had gathered there for that very purpose. They were completely unsportsmanlike in this regard.

should we have been foolish to have expected more than we did in this respect?
is that why we're ticked off collectively because we perhaps hoped for a bit of friendly banter (such as i and most other supporters have received in our non-BF lives) and maybe a few catcalls and yet nick was treated in the way we'd expect from Bay13 on BF?

At the prelim Pies supporters seemed more intent on foccussing aggression and inflicting pain on opposition supporters than simply celebrating their teams victory. In 2007 and 2009 I didn't say one thing to a Pies supporter because I understand how much it hurts to see your team miss out when they're so close. And yet I was coping abuse, unprovoked half way through the first quarter. When I finally broke and yelled back, 'You team's out there. Celebrate your victory. Don't be ****ing ar**holes' a few seemed to get it but most didn't.

Chanting over Nick's speech was a disgrace. It would have ruined the experience for the Saints supporters and their kids and taught thousands of Pies kids how to be ar**holes.

I've always said I'd never begrudge anyone the joy I felt in 2007 and 2009 but there have been a bunch of pies supporters who are making it hard for me to wish them the best.

Still, one of my best mates is a Pies supporter and doesn't come from that mold. He sat next to me at the 2007/2009 prelims with his head in his hands. I patted him on the back and said 'bad luck' as I celebrated my team. He was shattered but still wished me the best. That respect was returned last Friday when the tables were turned.

Last year after the GF siren, a Saints supporter filed past me with tears in his eyes, shook my hand and said congrats. I said 'bad luck' with tears in mine. I understand that pain.

So I'll sit back and watch the granny and think of those two blokes. If the Pies win I'll do my best to forget the abusive texts I received from Pies supporters and the disrespectful chanting yesterday and be wrapped for my Pies mate who supported me through the last three years. If the Saints win I'll think of that Saints bloke and how good it is to finally win it after suffering through the pain of getting so close.

bad luck boys. i don't think there was much any team could do to beat the maggies today. even if you kicked straighter, everything just clicked for the maggies today.

on the upside, you guys still have got a heap of talent down there with high picks in riewoldt, kosi, goddard, hayes, dal santo, etc. gilbert also shows a lot of promise as well. i don't think your premiership window is over just yet and i'm sure your side will be up there next year.

on goddard, he is such an unbelievable player... he would have to be one of the best 3 players in the league along with judd and ablett. I think goddard deserves to captain st. kilda before he finishes his career. he was pretty much a one-man army on the G today and what a performance it was. he is one opposition player that really captures the crowd's imagination. something rarely achieved... players such as lockett, daicos and matera from the past were others i can think of that had the same effect.
