The fight for top 4 & top 8

All today shown was that if you have an off game in this season you are in trouble. Collingwood still the team to beat - they didnt win 10 in a row because they are horrible. However, hopefully this puts the posts to rest proclaiming Collingwood as shoe-ins for the Grand Final. This is the year of upsets; its on the wind! No one is safe.

Probably the smartest post in this thread.

The only shoe ins for the GF would be WC if they finish Top 2. That said, they have a tricky draw for the rest of the year so a lot of water to pass under the bridge.

Is this for real? That makes no sense.

You could also say,

Sydney beat Hawthorn and Geelong.

Lost to Richmond though. Richmond a class above Hawthorn and Geelong.

Those games weren't in four straight weeks though.

Why were Carlton competitive against 3 top sides and spanked by one? An off night I guess.

Doesn't sting those who know what is going on. The coming draw will now realign the expectations of pies supporters. Pies probably a 5-7th side right now, given their inability to put away other top 8 sides. This has been hidden so far due to just falling over the lie against some top 8 sides, and their previous 10 games including 6 of the bottom 8. Desperately need players back and form changes in their forward line. Not too late to turn things around, and Pendles will make a big difference, but the team they are putting on the park right now, is simply not very good, or rather nowhere near as good as their supporters think it is.

Collingwood is 4-1 against top 8 sides, Hawks are 3-3 so where does that leave Hawthorn?

I thought Reid was the second coming of Christ? tbh I haven't seen a lot of Swans games this year, has he been injured/out of form?

Sydney supporters on this site don't generally overrate their players and claim they're the second coming of anything. There are a couple of supporters groups known for that, though.

Reid's form has picked up and he's kicking a couple of goals per game over the last month. His kicking action looks a lot smoother, too. The fact we've missed Goodes and Rohan is out for the year has made things that much tougher for Reid.

I could be mistaken, I thought there was a lot of Reid love early in the year.

Anyway, it is good if he is getting back into the swing of things. Rohan is a huge blow, felt really bad when he went down in our game, he is a good kid. Goodes is a massive loss as well.

Its because they rise to the occasion against Collingwood. Same with how Melbourne rise to the occasion against the magpies, and Port rises to the occasion against Adelaide.

And what Geelong do when they play Hawthorn.

It doesn't work like that. I have no idea why people think that the results of one match are indicative of the form of another team they played previously. Saying Carlton are the most accurate indicator of form makes no sense because too many factors come in to play when you try and judge which team is better.

I see, so Carlton raise their game against Collingwood, Geelong and West Coast in Perth. it all makes sense now.

So whats your BS excuse now? Carlton were missing Murphy, Laidler, Henderson, Waite, Thornton, Davies and Ellard, Hampson out first quarter and Simpson KOD. What Collingwood had an off night? Thank you for opening the door for Hawthorn, btw lol at the Chris Flaws :)

Lets get real BF posters.
This season is different to ones gone by. There is no standout team(s) and any game you play against a side from 1 to 11 is not a certainty if you dont bring your A game

Tonight, Carlton were fantastic and made Collingwood look slow. Pies had 50 tackles when they are averaging high 80s. Swan got smacked in the Kidneys when Hampson got hurt and i wont be suprised if its a little more serious. Daisy was hurt, Tarrant didnt play and the young kids didnt stand up tonight.

Why hasnt Carlton bought this intensity over the last few weeks? Judd is a star and as a hawks man he continues to raise himself over Hodge who i love to death (and will he play again this season??). Also loved Duigan game and Betts loves playing Pies.

At the Hawks, we are building slowly and thanks to BF, Clarko is playing Budwah and Roughy in the forward line and suprisise suprise we are kicking goals. (Thanks for listening Clarko)

As Victorians, we need Pies, Blues and maybe North to beat the interstate sides. I know the Hawks can do it. Can the Blues and North Melb do it?

I hope so

Eh?

For one, Geelong have been playing like that all year; doesnt matter who the team is, it's a close one. Playing the cats is not an indication of a teams form. And the Eagles dominated the Blues in almost every department but the scoreboard; could easily have been a 40+ win. So yeah, I dont think Carlton is in good form, and I sitll dont think they are in good form, they just rose to the occasion of Collingwood as a combination of history, passion and that their coach was potentially on the line. Thats like saying Melbourne is in great form because they beat Essendon; they aren't, they had a good game.

Ohhhhh, So let me get this straight, Geelong lower their game to everybody. Carlton raise there game against the Pies, the Eagles prefer to dominate off the scoreboard and everyone has been having a bad day against Hawthorn lately.

K got it.

Well right now Carlton sits in the 8. So Collingwood are 4-3 against top 8 sides. You won 2 of those by 3 points or less, and Cats had more scoring shots than you. Similarly, in our 3 losses we lost 2 by 5 points or less. So with a very small shift in the score lines it could have been 2-5 for pies against top 8 sides, and 5-1 for hawks. Of course it didn't turn out like that, but the point is the form against top 8 sides is not just about number of wins, it is about the nature of the wins and losses. Our 3 wins have all been very comfortable, our losses other than Sydney are small. Your 4 wins other than Adelaide were very close. Your 3 losses were all fairly large. So what that tells me about Hawthorn is that they are probably travelling slightly better than Pies right now. Final 9 games will clarify.

Actually it's more like lately Hawthorn have been having bad days against everyone they've lost to.

Geelong dont lower their game, they just arent playing very well. And the Hawks are a massively superior team to Carlton; not sure where you got the whole bad day aspect from when I didnt say anything of the sort. In fact, I didnt say anything about Hawthorn at all? The Hawks are in great form, no need to be defensive.

Gee some posters on here are morons. Who cares if Hawthorn beat Carlton yet Carlton beat Collingwood then they beat Geelong but rememeber Geelong beat Hawthorn who also beat Collingwood who beat Richmond who also beat Hawthorn. Lol.

Honestly, it comes down to ladder positions at the end of the year, because that will determine which teams have home ground advantages and who deserve to enter the finals in their positions.

After tonight, Sydney or the Eagles could now be considered the best team. In reality we won't know until the end of the season. There are 6 legitimate chances for the flag with Geelong who can beat anyone at anytime. Great year for the game!

Yeah but its a bit of fun.
Personally, my job sucks so pointless roundabout 'discussions' like this get me through the day

I love how people try to add up 1 and 1 and get 3. Your attempt at 'logic' reeks of desperation by most rational and neutral posters in this thread.
