Well said.

Cleverness is no substitute for wisdom.....Something these atheistic God de-bunkers, know nothing about.

All the tricks & none of the substance....Which is hardly surprising.

I'd be happy with cleverness OR wisdom!

I'm amazed that you have been able to capture such a constant stream of verbal diarrhoea
Via the medium of typing in a forum.

Kudos to you, good sir, you must be a hit at parties.
I go alright at parties.
When people ask me for an opinion,I give them one.
Works well for continuing conversation.
You'd be the guy shaking his head, slowly downing his light beer and scowling in the corner.
I'd be intrigued, but a bit meh about wanting to engage with you unfortunately.

You don't give an opinion though, you just launch in to the typical barrage of incessant and non stop pontificating, whilst bringing up the same tired questions over and over again.

I actually somewhat agree with this sentiment.

There seems to be an atheist profile which annoys me to tears. They are desperate to align themselves with the rational science position, in a sad attempt to be better than "the religious loons", and miss an opportunity to explore real scientific exploration in this area.

Anyway the atheist profile annoys me because their egos can't get past the first hurdle of, "look at me, i'm more intelligent than religious people"

Don't take that for certain atheists. Firstly, i reckon a large percentage of you are hiding behind the atheist label because you're insecure about being dumb and the ones that actually have half a brain haven't thought about this enough. They haven't done enough in the way of exploring spirituality, physics, indigenous cultures, theology , visionary plant medicine etc etc etc.

Until you've explored, in depth, all of the things i listed then i'm not interested in hearing about your atheist views.

Maybe you haven't haven't thought enough about being agnostic?

Trouble is, their ego's get in the way....That's it in a nutshell.

Their souls have shrunk to the thinking mind alone & they just can't see past it nor get over themselves.

Their trapped in the labyrinth.

i enjoy reading your posts nicky, but i think you are generalizing a bit in this one.

i have been on a journey my entire life and have switched my view from believer to atheist to agnostic and i would like there to be another existence after this flesh and blood one, although from all my reading and experiences i have yet to be convinced that this is likely.

the couple that my wife and i are best friends with and have great holidays with are strong believers and regular church goers and prayers, it has never interfered in our friendship in any way. tolerance of others views is the key IMO. civilized respectful discussion.

i think some posters on both sides in this thread are guilty of getting down in the gutter on occasion unfortunately.

I'm not generalising. People like Richard Dawkins and posters in this thread behave like smug know it alls when they have very little to add other than "i'm more intelligent than you believers". How many times and in how many ways can you have the same argument, it's seriously boring yet I see atheists arguing to death a pov of view that is contrary to someone who has faith. Why? The real question here is what is in this argument for them?

I see more arrogance, attacks on semantics and dragging down to the gutter coming from atheists than from the other side. I also think that atheists hide behind the "i'm so rational veil" when they can't prove anything one way or the other. Even though i'm not religious, I have more respect for moderates who have faith over atheists. I'm more interested in hearing their views, even when i don't share them, than the views of the atheist.

Thanks for saying that you enjoy my posts, yours are enjoyed by me too. It's also great that you are able to befriend people who have different views to yourself. I'm actually not referring to you when i talk about the atheist profile which annoys me.

i can't speak for "them" me personally i enjoy the discussion and always have even when i was a believer i liked to hear other points of view, i have read books on astral travel, lobsang rampas books, tried DMT, i even read most of the bible as a young man some 30 odd years ago.
my own father was very "spiritual" the last 10 to 15 years before his death and told me he could astral travel.

isn't the whole purpose of this thread to discuss "the god question"? it's not compulsory to click on it if atheist views are not to your liking.

Name and shame, Nicky!

Bring the posts up, and let's look at them, so we can all be better educated!

You don't think Richard Dawkins has added anything to the discussion on religion or has added very little, I disagree.

I like giving my views on atheist more than i dislike atheists, if that makes sense. But yes, if reading their views ever cause me genuine distress then i will unsubscribe from this thread :)

He adds nothing.

He might add something arguing the point about evolution, and he I encourage him to do so. However he adds nothing about astrophysics and cosmology and really, experts in these fields are the opinions that have something to add. Other than that his opinion on the nature of the universe is as valid as a religious persons.

Nah, not naming and shaming. You know who you are ;)

I think you should name and shame. Because as seen with Jason, it looks like you're calling out everyone who has argued against religious points. Or taken an anti-religion stance.

And you're 100% correct on taking the opinions of experts in fields above others.
But if an expert is going against evidence, do you follow the evidence or the expert?

You've proved his point with your smug arrogance you've just displayed.

There are degrees to which you can take an anti-religion stance. Calling people stupid and dumb for having faith is shitty.... Yet questioning someone about their beliefs (in a sensitive way) is ok.

And you're 100% correct on taking the opinions of experts in fields above others.

If they're an expert and they're going against evidence then it stands to reason that they probably have some new evidence which trumps the old evidence and therefore should be listened to. This happens all the time in science and the experts are laughed at and ostracised until the rest of the world catches up.

It's the atheist profile that i was referring to that laugh the loudest. They are desperate to keep the status quo, OR to align themselves with mainstream opinion.

To answer your question though, i don't have a protocol for these things that is set in stone.

Nailed it to the cross.

And the hubris in their 'Who still believes in such fairy tales'?

All it tells me is how closed-minded they really are....After all, what do we really know?....Never mind, an atheist will tell us.:drunk:

Tired?

You're pissing me off now
