The former staffers say they urged her to speak to Bandt about the relationship but were rebuffed. The second former staffer directly approached Bandt’s office about the relationship but, the first former staffer said, their concerns were rebuffed.

According to bandt, 15 minutes (from the time the abc story was published). Now if evidence comes to the contrary this will affect his integrity. But at this point he appears to have acted quickly, and in a way demonstrates the standards needed (ones which the LNP failed to do)

As I suspect you know, the Organised Crime act in QLD listed the Rebels as an organised crime group, but this apparently did not stop them from creating a (now, sermingly unanattended) website to promote their outlaw motorcycle gang, nor was it successful in erradicating the group.
That said, I don’t think bikie gangs do operate in the open. When I was using illicit amphetamines regularly, I still had to exercise a normal level of caution when accessing my friendly motorcycle enthusiast’s service.

She had a relationship with this guy and hence an association. An ex-president no less, not some junior or random who could not be discerned as a bikie gang member.
It means she could have been influenced, corrupted, extorted or blackmailed by him or other bikies be they Rebels or opposition gangs.
All good to say it was just 'rooting' but this created an influence chanel for serious criminal elements.
The relationship could have been completely innocent but it matters little and at the end of the day Bandt asked her to step down from deputy not that human cancer Murdoch.
