At the end of last season we let a number of senior players leave the club. Ellis, Cox, Dooley, Hudson, Romero, Contessa, Curley were all released.

Thats a lot of senior experience. I recall at the time that most of them individually had a supporter or two who felt they should be kept on the list.

What do people think now? Did the club make the right choices?

Would any of these guys warrant a senior position in our team or be worth a spot on our list now?

The only one of those guys who is doing anything of note right now is Cox.He has been very consistent so far this year and had another 23 possesions on Sunday.I was against getting rid of him at the time but to be honest I am not really losing alot of sleep over not having him around any more. There was never really any doubt that he would go to another club and play well but he still clearly has those deficiencies that we have spoken about at length before which is why losing him was acceptable.I think for a team like Hawthorn in the position they were in at the start of the year they were able to cope with the downside of his game more than we were.

Of the rest

Ellis-Able to hold a tall but was good trade bait for a team like Melbourne. Was to reliant on havong the right match up aswell.

Dooley-Was not up to this level and had trouble adapting to this level.May have done more if given a solid run for a few weeks but I was never a big fan.

Hudson-Needed a change and Frawley is killing him at Richmond. He doesnt understand that a guy like Huddo needs to be in there all the time.He is not going to kick 5 every week.

Romero-Knees gave out so its not an issue.

Contessa-I loved this guy despite all his short comings.Always performed when given a chance but was never going to be a permanent fixture with Plough as coach.Had fallings out with alot of players aswell.

Curley-Didn't deserve to be delisted but at the end of the day was probably holding out a young bloke.Did everything asked of him but his disposal and confidence was down last year.I loved this guy aswell and I still think he would have been of value this year.

Pick 26-Disgraceful delisting:mad:

I'd post my own comments but they are very similar so why bother?

Your club did absolutely the right thing. The blokes mentioned are never going to be top shelf players. Picking up Bandy was a good move and there's stacks of youngsters. Genuine cause for optimism.

Unfortunately, Hudson only hangs around the goals so he has to kick goals nearly every week. Richmond have the exciting Rodan to perform this function for them, who has his whole career ahead of him.

Contessa picked a dud SANFL team. Ellis is unreliable - gets beaten too often. Curley had his go and Dooley was never up to it.

You lot should all get to Optus on Sunday - it shapes as a really good game (I'll be there as a neutral). More interesting than the "power clubs".

I think we did the right thing. We were hardly gonna move forward with all the same players. If it wasn't working then why would it start working this year?

Huddo- dud of the century. If we still had him he would b taking up space in the forward line which in now occupied by faster, ballgetting guys who CAN play,

Ellis- Slow and unreliable. Obviously a male model...ne1 cn Zoolander? ;)

Cox- not his fault, he was a good player but i think bcos of the Scott West thing he wasn't getting along with a whole heap of players and it was obvious they were gonna get rid of him.

Contessa- Very tough and didn't really let much get in his way. Reminded me of libba a bit but was never given sufficient time to prove himself and was inconsistent.

Curley- he was pretty good but he wasn't doing great and I think we made the right choice- look at all of the players weve got now, we'll b the side to beat in a few yrs.

Dooley- again inconsistent and just didn't have enough ability to play at the top level.

I think weve done really well in the players weve got, I don't think we could have done much better.

Ellis (zoolander) Lets see if we can get this going as a nickname for him at the next dees game!

Cox: Penny is better
Contessa: Robbins is bigger, faster version
Curley: Harrison is a bigger version

Yeah 250+ goals in 100+ games. Damn you Huddo, you were the worst pocket player we've ever had

Guido certainly knows where the points are. If he could kick goals, your second point would be justified

Huddo WAS a great kick for goal.
Huddo WAS one of the better flankers going around with his goals average.
Guido WILL become a valuable player as a forward AND an onballer.
Guido WILL only get better.
Guido WILL be playing AFL next year and many more.........

Spot on, Huddo was tremendous for our club. I would say he was our best double eyebrowed pick up we got in the last decade, behind Jose.

Huddo would have to be the most unfairly bagged player we have ever had at the club

Huddo - was a great pick up for us - I would have kept him one more but I didn't loose any sleep over him going
Cox - indifferent then, indifferent now
Curley - unlucky, but probably right
Dooley - I would have given him more chance but given we didn't, delisting was right
Contessa - I was happy, plenty of endeavour but not up to it
Ellis - I'm still celebrating

Huddo-One of the few recruits to have played his best footy at our club. All-Australian in '98, leading goal kicker, nuff said. Having said that I am fairly confident that his best footy is behind him. The club made the right call but should have drafted with the picks they got. Replacement Guido

Dooley-Not much of a future for ruckman that refuse to contest marks. Replacement Bruton/Skipper/Greenwood/Bandy

Curley. Same as Huddo but without the AA and leading goalkicker stuff. Good solid, reliable defender who lost confidence in his last season. Birss/Murphy

Ellis-One good season. Time to validate the experiment and get something while we could. Replacement Hargrave/Harris/Grant/Bowden

Cox-The biggest shame of them all. Could still a place in the side, but for me it was Simon or Kinger. Both couldnt do essentially the same role in the side. If only he was a bit more physical. Replacement Hunter.

Contessa. May get enough another chance at AFL. His style no longer suited us.
