Do you genuinely believe Posie Parker is interested in "Womans Rights"? I am inclined to believe she is just a run of the mill homophobe hiding behind Womens Rights while she grifts from the right wing angertainment industry.

I don't have any stats. I would say I have had many many more casual conversations about trans issues than I have about DV. DV will bring down the mood in any room down in an instant - trans jokes will have the boys laughing their heads off.

The trans debate is big news for all the wrong reasons - it is a culture war - and sport seems to be the central battle ground. Yet the fact is trans men are prevented from competing in most (if not all) elite woman's sports. Rightly. The settings are already right.

But the debate rages on - why?
There's not much debate to be had with DV. Almost everyone agrees it's wrong, at least publicly.

The trans debate is much more controversial, and therefore more interesting to discuss. I wouldn't say that makes it more important to most.

I think there is an underlying feeling of "not all men" and this does make DV some sort of "woke" issue that not all men have to deal with - which then kicks the issue down the road again.

Also, not everyone agrees it is wrong. Pauline Hansen and others in parliament rail against woman claiming they use DV as a weapon. 7 harboured an alleged rapist for reasons we do not know. Newscorp championed that same alleged rapist for reasons we do not know. And there was not much resistance by anyone - apparently that is just how it works.

The trans issue is confected outrage. Like boat people. Most people in Australia will never come across a boat person or a trans person in their life. And they would actually be perfectly fine if they did. But for some reason the whole thing creates outrage.

Id rather view it as a societal issue than purely a mens issue. Oftentimes it can be caused by untreated mental health issues.

Fair enough. Paulin Hanson's views are generally minority views, and I suggest they would be in this case too.

The person behind the argument often gets forgotten here. Trans people are people who should be treated with dignity and respect for who they are.

Personally, I find the most vocal parts of both sides of the debate obnoxious at times. The issues can be worked out with respect and science rather than outrage.

Opposition Leader John Pesutto had better start watching his back sooner rather than later, considering the fact that Liberal MP, former tennis star Sam Groth had put his leadership claims forward in an interview in the Sunday Herald Sun today. As if the legal problems for Pesutto over the Moira Deeming affair wasn't bad enough...then this comes up.

Does anyone know what faction he is? I just did a quick search and he seems to be a total non entity

All these blockheads had to do was keep their mouths shut until the election, not rock the boat, and they'd piss it in because Allen is that unpopular. Instead they seem determined to kill off the only competent leader the Liberals have had in over a decade, and go back to another conservative clown who will annoy everybody, thus guaranteeing Labor another term by default. Never change, Vic Liberals, never change.

I’m staying out of that but i will add that the Right Wingers are certainly frothing at the minute - Pessutto seems a bit like Malcom Turnbull to them

Pesutto gaining ground against a long-term Government that seems to be less popular, and they decide to blow it all up because of a looney. Battin comes across as Matthew Guy mk2 and is largely irrelevant.

Would never vote for the Liberals but a decent opposition is good for democracy. This lot are a joke.

Turnbull won an election though. One can argue Scummo did too I guess, but I'd say News Limited really won that election by making Shorten out to be the devil. They can do that with Allen too but I think she's already hit bottom and Victorians are a bit less susceptible to a News Limited scare campaign anyway, compared to the rugby league dominant states.

I would’ve voted for Pesutto but not a chance in hell now.

They are an utter joke. Considering how bad Labor are at state level, that’s saying something.

Cue the shocked pickachu faces in November 2026 when they underperform yet again after putting some gronk leader in charge.

If this is the direction the party keeps on, there's only going to be more of these unsavoury characters popping up in future and distracting from their messaging.

Groth is non-factional.

don’t you need to pick a side to become the leader tp? think that applies to both major parties.

can’t believe the libs are so bereft of talent they elevate someone so politically new and disloyal to pesutto

i’ve been critical of crozier but credit to her for her loyalty to pesutto.

The Nevada case was a very bad result for the Liberals. Imagine old mate falls off the perch - that is an existential risk for the LNP

Looks like they are going to fire up the old racism machine again.

Crime scare 2.0. or will it be youth crime this time?

Funny to see the Hun put stuff like this up - they seem to be totally oblivious to the reality that nobody has a clue or a care who Pesutto or Battin are.

How out of touch can you be
New Liberal heartland in Melbourne's outer suburbs has literally been the play since Dan Andrews won his second term.

Good luck breaking through when Dutto the loon is going full support for a new Nakba at the federal level, and this former cop wants to dog whistle his way to victory.

I'm sure Melbourne's ethnically and religiously diverse exurbs are excited to be demonised. That'll win em over. Oh and cut taxes and services, that's going to be a great help to underserved communities which will be hit hardest by austerity and won't see a lick of the benefits for abolition of stamp duty/land taxes etc. aimed at the moneyed AFR set.

First puff piece.

I’m sure young families who can’t even buy a home will resonate with the vibe ‘to make it easier to buy an investment property’
