$1049 for the crane

Who the **** spends that much on one piece of lego?

And if I were going to do it, there's about two dozen lego sets worth $600+ that I'd buy before this.

Yeah, you're spot on. There's a few of those huge sets I'd love (eg Titanic), but there's no way I can justify that sort of money. These days I find myself buying smaller sets and keeping an eye out for savings. My last purchase was the Friends Botanic Garden for $79 in the Target sale.

The most expensive set I've ever bought is Diagon Alley, which was $600 at the time.

My biggest will be the Collesseum when/if it comes back in stock but using $150 off VIP points voucher.

Not really interested in technix or cars luckily.

Will be interesting to see how this sells. Lego shouldn't be for rich people only.
I'm not sure how well the $800+ sets sell - there must be a market because there is a steady release of new ones. Wasn't long ago that the range topped out around $500.

I guess Lego are now directly targetting adults with disposable income, which is a relatively new market for them. These mega sets do have widely varying subject matter presumably to hit fans of those subjects who may not have previously considered buying a Lego product.

Luckily there is still a focus on excellent affordable sets. If anything I think Lego may be spreading itself too thin.

EDIT : typo

Paradoxically, probably not. In the Crane Enthusiasts Forums there is much discussion about how unrealistic this set is compared to its prototype ;).

I do miss having that opportunity to show kids your loves and see them adopt them though.
My kid couldn’t give a shit about any of my interests. But I’ve caught their love of Black Sabbath and vintage hot wheels cars, and I'm pretty sure the wife is getting more out of Lego than they are.

I posed the question before making a big pick a brick order (for Voltron) about how they’d arrive.

Turns out they all just come in one sealed bag. This build is going to be a disaster… over 2000 unsorted pieces, and I’ll be building using the phone app for the first time.

(This is one of 6 bags)

The phone app instructions are great imo. The ability to rotate the model is so helpful.

Librarian me would love sorting all of that out.

My problem is space - I live in a small apartment, and I don’t have a big dining room table or anything.

I will have to sort them, I just don’t know how yet.
