The Liberal Party - How long? - Part 2

The libs have a idea not a policy.

A policy has costings and timeframes and a actual plan.

Their Nuclear "idea" has none of that.

The numbers haven't been released yet mate. Do be patient, all will be revealed in due course.

In the meantime, I am sure you will continue to feverishly bombard your local ALP member with requests for the $275.00 reduction to your power bill that you were promised in May of 2022 by said ALP.

Interesting interview on the Atlas Network of junk tanks including the wacky IPA and a new one getting ready to pop up in Perth:

Abbott making bank swanning around on Atlas cred.

Liz Truss already blew up the British economy with junk tank theories as a long-time Atlas acolyte, still running around like a loon pushing their dross.

National Party invaded by the religio-fascists.

Victorian Liberals converted to this right wing brand of exclusive conservatism, with super feminists like Moira Deeming suing people who don't like her, showing that freedom of speech is for the privileged conservatives and nobody else.

Just want to know how much they will cost and when they will be built.

Jane Hume said on TV last week that they can be built in 3 years so if the Libs win the next election then we should be firing on all cylinders.....sorry, reactors by 2028.

Apart from Hume being a well documented ****ing idiot.
The LNP couldn't build carparks in 3 years.
The LNP sabotaged up the NBN roll-out.
Snowy Hyrdo 2.0 is billions overdue with no clear finish date.
Hinkley Point was started in 2017 and still hasn't been finished and is only expected to be generating power in 2029 this coming from a country with 9 operational reactors already. Only expected to cost 40 billion pounds.

Nuclear is pipedream in this country, I have more chance of a threesome with Ana de Armas and Margot Robbie than the LNP successfully rolling out nuclear.

But want the state to fund nuclear power?

Someone mentioned to me Dutton's policy of banning non-permanent residents from buying properties for two years, saying how good the policy is. I pointed out that:

  • It's like putting a Band-Aid on a broken leg - addressing a tiny fraction of the issue for two measly years
  • It was the Liberal Party that made property prices crazy in the first place

I've now thought of a better analogy: it's like poisoning someone and then giving them only a tiny fraction of the antidote they need.

The way this country has financialised housing, and its paralysis when it comes to doing something about the crisis that caused, is an embarrassment.

Each plant costs $90billion each. Today. So probably well over $100billion by the time Dutton gets to it.

7 plants = $700 billion.

Current national debt is $600 billion (thanks to back to back Labor surpluses :))

Do you want to double the National Debt for the privilege of having the most expensive electricity on the planet?

To be fair, only an Australian would be stupid enough to want that. Cause culture wars or something.

Did Jane really say that?

Holy shit - she needs to get off the gin. Seriously - who needs a video to make a Gin and lemonade - who even has a Gin and Lemonade - **** the Liberals are useless dumb campaigners

That video is over two years old - nice work

Come on TP. The underlying point is that Hume claimed on Sky last week that 'small module' reactors can be built in 3 years, citing a UAE example. I suspect she's referring to this one:

Where each individual unit took at least EIGHT years from commencement of construction to commission. In a very different industrial environment and regulatory framework.

The underlying point was because Jane once or twice made whimsical facebook videos about making cocktails, her apparent lack of expertise in this area is probably due to being intoxicated. Why else would a two year old video with no relevance be posted?

So intoxication is the reason she claimed 3 years for something that quite clearly took 8?
The videos are a distraction to Hume appearing like a dimwit yet again, confirming that both sentences in Rotayjay 's post above are likely on the money.

It's all fair comment for a Liberal woman. She must be drunk etc...

The videos were fun. If you prefer robots, then go ahead.

Deal with the content of her argument rather than whack her with the video which was obviously done for fun.

I think an utterly reasonable question to anybody suggesting that SMRs can be built in three years is "Are you high?"

Dutton says
"Israel is facing an existential threat of extinction. They are being attacked through the proxies of Iran. That's what's happening here."

How does a person get to his position defend a genocide by saying the ones committing genocide are facing "extinction"?? He's enabling the further genocide and Israeli escalation.

He's a foreign policy lightweight.

It's either that he's stupid, that he's getting a lot of lobbyist money AIPAC style, or it's his latest dog-whistle to the anti-Sharia crowd. Knowing Dutton, it's probably all three.

Anyone who knows even the slightest bit about the (failed on both sides) process of choosing a nuclear waste site in Kimba - middle of nowhere for low-grade medical nuclear waste would know the problems of building the station are just the tip of the iceberg in the approvals process for a whole nuclear supply chain.

Indeed. Israel without US support might potentially one day face a foreign threat on the level of extinction, but Uncle Sam is still right there behind them.

What are the odds of the federal branch of the Liberal Party taking over its Victorian counterparts in light of the Deeming v Pesutto court case which has seriously disrupted the Victorian Coalition and embarrassed Opposition Leader Peter Dutton?

He got flamed for it at the time, and I'm not a Tony Abbott fan, but I think Abbott was at least partly on the money when he said that the Syrian Civil War was 'baddies versus baddies'. I think that's at least partly on the money for the current Middle East conflicts too.

I would describe Hamas and Hezbollah as baddies, being designated terrorist organisations. I also believe that the current Netanyahu government (NOT Israel, NOT Jewish people) are baddies, being people blowing up civilians on a daily basis.

Therefore, in light of these conflicts being absolute cluster ****s with civilian suffering on all sides, being a blinkered flag-waver for one side is not the right approach. Australia might be allied to the US, but that does not mean we need to support the Israeli government in choosing to kill civilians. We are not Israel's obedient lapdogs. Antisemitism is bad, but so is bombing children.

The Liberal Party wishes it was the US Republican Party. I suggest they all * off to America rather than continuing this bizarre, over-simplistic obsession with 'Israel good, everyone else bad'.
