Wingrad was airlifted to the next checkpoint because he was badly shaken by the fall and there were concerns he could be injured. The doctor assessed him at the checkpoint, cleared him medically, he was given a new bike and carried on the ride with his team mates.

Blimey, overkill a bit? What is he the Pope?

With the money we would pay for that we could give it to Davis...

I doubt he was medivac'ed. He was probably just picked up in a standard sightseeing helicopter that the club had on standby just in case. I doubt the cost would have been excessive.

yeah i think a helicopter has been following the guys around for a lot of the trip. there's been plenty of footage from the air.
Your right. I just watched the PTV video of the bike ride and it has footage taken from a helicopter so the helicopter was already there and paid for when Windgard came off his bike.

I'm expecting at least one journo in Adelaide to come up with a story that "cash strapped Port Adelaide controversially airlift player to pick up a new bike."

I like you saying WE again morell.....

Look I'm not sure but I'm guessing the NZ Government would be paying something towards the chopper to guarantee our players safety and the media would be covering it to an extent. To suggest that the PAFC has paid for a chopper to cover our blokes trials and tribulations through NZ so we can see it on PTV is just well... silly. I would be surprised if we were contributing anything towards said chopper.

Except maybe Ride of the Valkyries blasting through the speakers a la "Apocalypse Now" as motivational music ie ride faster or feel the agent orange.....

So the NZ government would spend the NZ taxpayers' money for the hire of a chopper for a day to ensure the safety of our players in terrain inaccessible, or very difficult and slow to access, to land vehicles but the PAFC, who has a lot of money invested in these players, would not? That is not silly, that is irresponsible.

Where did I say that the sole purpose of the chopper was there to provide video for PTV? That would certainly be an ancillary function.

I assume that the camp they are doing is run by an organization who sees all sorts of professional and sporting organizations come through year roun and they own the camera as part of the package for the rescue/footage recording for promo purposes etc

Don't be so sensitive man, I wasn't having a crack at you but think about this....

They would, the same as the NSW government monitors KNOWN visitors to the Blue Mountains to limit risk of loss of life and damage to the areas reputation. Maybe we will never know why the chopper was there but I'm guessing surveillance and a camera was chucked on for "highlights".

**** we are a sensitive mob on this board...

According to PTV it was a local chopper pilot who provided the ride for day 4, but doesn't say who paid. Most likely a free gesture from the pilot IMO.

It could also have been the situation for the other days.

Cant anyone else see that not everyone on the trip would be able or needing to do 12 hour hikes or 8 hour bike rides? The chopper, even if PAFC paid for it, would be necessary to cart supplies and other stuff.

With a multi million dollar investment in players I would be shocked if the organisers hadn't spent the extra k's on insurance of player welfare via a hellicopter.

Andrew "Controversially" Capel and Zac Milbank in this morning's 'Tiser;

.... Cash-strapped Port has flown its entire squad to New Zealand ....

Not being sensitive, simply responding to your claim that my post was silly, but surely you are joking about the NZ government.

For guys posing as journalists, you would have thought they would have a wider vocabulary or certainly some newer or original thoughts.

They still give me a good reason to not spent one cent on the thing masquerading as a newspaper.

Really who could give a flying **** about a bloody helicopter?

The fact some journos seek to highlight this is an indictment on their lack of imagination to creatively comment on footy during the off-season.

Cut off their oxygen supply, no-one would miss them.

well it's "cash-strapped Labor government" on the front page of the Sunday Mail today.

good to know its not just the sports writers, and it's not just us.

the frigging media... can't live with them, can't live without them.
