Harry is crucial. Trying to man up on Mooy, Bruno AND Harry is near impossible, and frees up the likes of Fitzgerald and Caceres.
And Wilkinson is the other key. Our defence is now enviable.
Excellent month this March 2016.

Agreed. Malik has been superb too.

Long way from the Aloisi days, even with the cash input hasn't been an overnight job.

Props to the board for sticking with JVS when people like me were calling for his head. Happily wiping egg from face :thumbsu:
I might have to retract a few things about JVS too.

I sense a hater

I will monitor him for the rest of the season, but seriously, if you're saying that sort of shit then you don't deserve a gig as a pundit anywhere

#flog

Strange comments from him there, seems a bit bitter?

Anyway excellent win, premiership is well within reach now.

Is it still Championship or the sack for JvS though, Ryz? I thought he was really poor earlier in the season and his continual change in formation lead to some absolutely horrific defensive performances. I still have concerns over his ability to develop a gameplan that's not going to ship a hat-full of goals every week. Our recent defensive stability is more down to the arrival of Wilko and Malik rather than a change in JvS imo.

Good points however the usually solid guys have been very prone to brain fades at times during the season.

Could actually draw a lot of parallels between North and City as far as onfield goes...

God I hope the kangas are on top and flying with 3 rounds to go! xD

Malik is playing as a holding mid now yeah? Looks far better further up the pitch than a defensive liability down back.

Kinda reminds me of David Luiz a bit lol

Very strange

Like I said I will monitor his behaviour when we play, but seriously if he has an agenda against us then he can GAGF and he should not be employed by any media outlet to talk rationally about the game.

Everyone has an opinion, but bias and the like is not acceptable imo.

Since we've thankfully abandoned the back 3 we seem to have moved to a 4-4-2 without the ball and a 4-4-2 Diamond or maybe a 4-1-3-2 with the ball with Malik screening the back 4, Mooy moving to the 10 behind Novillo and Bruno with Zullo and Fitzy pushing right up the pitch.

When we build from the back Malik actually plays a very similar role to the one that Dier plays for Spurs, often dropping between Wilko and Kisnorbo who split wide. He's a lot more disciplined and mobile than Paartalu and he's also a much better passer, capable of spraying the ball to the free wingers or full backs. It's no surprise that our defense has significantly improved with him over Paartalu and with the signing of Alex Wilkinson. It also helps that when we defend with the two banks of 4 Zullo and Fitzy work really hard, preventing overloads in wide areas which absolutely slaughtered us when we played with the 3 at the back.

Agree with that

Franjic was abysmal in the back 3 system as a wing back, we conceded so many goals out there due to him bombing forward then never getting back.

Likewise Garruccio or Zullo on the left. If a team is going to play 3 at the back it has to either have 2 dedicated holding mids or 1 incredibly mobile and for defensive midfielder to cover the wing backs in transition. Paartalu was nowhere near good enough to play that role and other options like Melling or Retre weren't smart or disciplined enough. I remember too that the 3 CB's were always to flat or square, we got absolutely slaughtered away to the Wanderers because they kept breaking the offside trap or playing through the channels left vacant by the wing-backs.

It can work really well when employed properly and with the right players - IIRC when Liverpool almost won the league they played 3 at the back for most of the season - and it can really give you the upper hand in controlling the midfield but we just didn't have the right players for the system. I understand why he did it though because there's no point in having a front 3 of Mooy, Fornaroli and Novillo and not squeezing everything you can out of those players, but I think he's got it right now with the attacking set up of the 4-4-2 diamond/4-1-3-2.

I don't really care, but it is a bit unfair on our supporters, the vast majority of whom have stuck fat through some pretty miserable seasons. It's not like we've seen a massive increase in bandwagon support this year (why would there be? Our major rivals are the reigning winners of all three major pieces of silverware), it was a noticeably poor crowd last night. If we win the next two (or get at least four points), maybe we'll see the bandwagon coming.

Maybe worry about where the money is coming from if we start dominating the league. Until then, a bit of respect wouldn't go astray for the supporters that have had almost no joy since we started giving this club our money.

Just read an article on FoxSports discussing a 3rd marquee player. If this was the case it would allow us to bring in a 3rd gun, but where would we put them? Who would we want?

Think it's going to be very hard for us to keep Mooy next season.

And slightly worried we could lose Fornoroli or Novillo as well ...
All the more reason why we must capitalise while we have them all available this year.

No Mooy, Wilkinson and Hughes this week with International Duties, who plays? For me it's pretty straightforward:

Sorenson
Franjic - Kisnorbo - Chapman - Garruccio
Malik
Fitzgerald - Zullo
Caceres
Novillo - Fornaroli
The diamond in midfield has worked so well recently that I'm hesitant to get rid of it but we may have to go with two screens for the CB's with Fitz and Zullo wide since we don't have Mooy

Why not consider who we had missing eary season? We were stuffed by calves and hamstring, etc getting used to the new pitch.
Why do youthink we have Wilko and Malik?
JVS should be given a lot more credit than what you suggest.
Championship or the sack? That is really harsh.
Still 3 games including a away in Perth, and WSW has a pretty perfect draw after this weekend, and are getting MV at a low ebb of their season.

Yep. And if Mooy goes overseas we can bring in another creative midfielder with the oodles of cash we have.
