Mark Hutchings. 181cm / 87kg. Midfielder.

75 games in 5 years at WC.

Career average of 16.4 disposals a game. Never had a BOG, polled 2 Brownlow votes in a game once in 2016.

Played the last 12 games on 2015, 8 in 2016, 19 this year. Hasn't missed a final in that time.

In our side most of the time but plays a few WAFL games each year. Seems to get by on not being our worst at a given point in time.

Carrazzo played 194 games, won a B&F, had 40 possession games and tagged out some of the best midfielders in the league

OBree played 246 games in 13 seasons.

These are not your Sam Lonergan, making up the numbers sort of players we are looking for.
Somebody had to win Carlton's B&F in 2007

Can you be your club's most average player and also a whipping boy? Do they overlap?

We've had a few whipping boys over the years of varying degrees of averageness. Rowan Jones, Chad Fletcher, Brent Staker, even a Brownlow wasn't enough to save Matt Priddis. When you are making AA sides then you immediately exit the conversation for most average, but Rowan Jones played nearly every game over 2006/7 and almost all of them were followed by 'OUT: RoJo' in the 'changes for next week' thread. He was an average player at AFL level, but I don't think he really typifies this thread. Hutchings played 19 games this year and probably 15 of them were completely anonymous. People don't call for his head not because they like him but because they don't really notice he's there.

Josh Hill is another pretty average Eagle. 107 games for us and 66 for the Dogs. 173 games is a pretty good AFL career but he coasted for about 170 of them. Probably spent 6 of his 11 seasons at AFL level as a best 22 player and the other 5 on the fringe, ending up averaging 15 games a year which is Joe Average territory. Can remember him kicking a few goals from nothing on numerous occasions, but never in 173 games did he kick more than 4 in a game.

Carrazzo and O'Bree (to a lesser extent) are much better nominations than Sam Lonergan. Sam Lonergan would have never risen to mid-tier status during his career. He was below average as a player.

I suppose it depends on your definition of average. Carrazzo and O'Bree are very solid B graders.

Average is a low C in my book. On reflection Sam was a D grader for all but the start of one very special year for EFC.
