Still baffles me how he did not get drafted. Going through the archives, people were talking about him being top 15, even top 5 only a few weeks before the draft. Does anyone know the reason why clubs stayed away? It can't be attitude, hes a top bloke whos working very hard on his footy. Hopefully we'll see some Goo action in the NAB cup, because I have very high hopes for this kid. Has the potential to be a freak.

Potential can be a scary word to some recruiters! Especially when you dont really have the runs on the board.
Spot on But happens most seasons - On here people think there 1st Rounders then Fall In the Draft or go even later

Obviously the recruiters for all clubs know alot more then BigFooty folk. Simply put, he wasn't as good as he was made out to be.
he didnt make out to be anything , he was just playing football
had an excellent draft camp was considered a freak set the record for verticle leap if i remember correctly.
has had a good learning year at burger 2,s then the seniors and even kicked 7 goals in 1 game.

could be anything this kid 193cm 90kgs fast as lids with a higher leap

Sounds like your talking about Sean Rusling.

No kidding Gourdis is one hell of an athlete. But the kid simply goes missing too much to be a top 10 pick (i picked this last year). Can do things you go wow but also can do things where you go WTF??? Tarrant_like even.

Recruiters see the weaknesses and they get weighed against the 'potential'.

The kid could be the greatest steal in draft history, but more likely he'll fade into obscurity as yet another 'could have been'.

All clubs have them, and the game is the richer for every one who makes it, so lets hope he comes good, but don't hold your breath.

A select few on BF know what they're talking about, the rest have no idea (myself included).

How does it baffle you? That recruiters didn't agree with your assessment? Maybe thats why you're posting here and they're getting paid the big bucks ;)

It wasn't attitude - it was illness. The guy was/is suffering from depression. You're right, he is a great talent and he does work hard but clubs weren't convinced that he would be able to cope with the full on environment of being drafted into the top competition. In the end Richmond obviously decided it was something they could help him work on and see if there was a way for that potential to come out unhindered.

Thanks for clearing that up mate, now everything makes sense. He has been handled with care this season, hopefully it all works out for him, could be a gun.

One of the moderators on Punt Road End who has seen the Richmond draft sheets from last year posted that Gourdis was one of 4 players in the round 2 bracket and could have gone at 18 if Rance had already been taken, if that was the case we wouldnt be writing on this post, also interesting that feedback after the PSD had him going 1st pick to Richmond, Carlton, Essendon and West Coast, drafting is a fine line and its obviously difficult on the day and under pressure to change your plan when the unexpected occurs. Will be interesting to watch the panic discussions if Natinui is still there at pic 5 to ten.

I think this will be a thread Tiger supporters and general supporters will look for come October 2009 after he'd played a few games. Time will tell, once he starts accumulating runs then we can start assessing his ability.

Remember Jurica? So much was talked about him, kicked 6 or 7 on debut, then went to water pretty quickly. I hear Goo is lightning quick so we'll see where he is at in pre-season comp in early 2009. He could be the replacement we need when Richo's days are over with RFC.

Played Junio footy and Subi footy with the guy.
Amazing athlete, lightning quick, strong, amazing jump

CANT PLAY FOOTY. He is a great athlete who struggles with the fundamentals of football. hopefully can work on it but im not sure.

have a look at the highlight real, reads the ball well in the air & attacks it
started in the burger 2,s did well and kicked 7 goals for burgers
you dont do these things if you cant play footy.
needs developement but looks to be on track atm
all i would expect from david next year is establish himself as a regular at coburg with perhaps 2-3 games for richmond at the end of the year.
by the time he is 21 will make a good foward.
