AFLW 2024 - Round 10 - Chat, game threads, injury lists, team lineups and more.
The whole concept of sign stealing was bizarre to me. Fancy a sport having a rule that you're not allowed to scout a team at other games to work out how to beat them. You can only watch videos. Deciphering another team's hand gestures (signs) seemed like a proper competitive action to me. I saw this as just an example of how weird Americans are sometimes.
Watched it last night. Bit old (2015). Probably the best solo performer I've ever seen. Saw him at the regal in subiaco. Couldn't believe he didn't use a microphone. His voice is that powerful. And when hits that note in overkill my goodness..Colin Hay doco is great.
I don't follow American Football, and I have to admit that after I watched the first five minutes of that doco, I had to google to find out what sign stealing was and why they were so upset about it. That was my biggest criticism of it as a production. They made it for people who knew about it and gave no real explanation as to what it was and why people thought it was bad for those who don't follow the sport. But they've changed to radio after this so-called scandal, so don't use signs anymore.Sign stealing is not illegal but having someone scouting a previous game of an opponent and using recording equipment to record signs.
A big part of that being introduced is that big colleges like Michigan have enormous annual budgets far greater than many teams in their own conference to offers an unfair advantage as they can use expensive equipment to record.
NFL had a big case years ago when Patriots recorded opposition coaches ..which you can do from approved places but Pats were recording from unapproved sidelines.
To me it’s a shit act and pissweak trying to steal signs. Still most teams should be able to counter it by changing their signs around
Anyone start watching the Menendez brothers and made it all the way from start to finish?
On ep 8 now.5 eps down. It’s fantastic. I’d easily pencil it down as an 8/10 show right now. Keen to see it through.
I did 2 tonight and will watch 2 tomorrowBinged 6 episodes of Mr McMahon.
Anybody who’s been a wrestling fan at any stage this is definitely worth a watch.
I did 2 tonight and will watch 2 tomorrow
I have seen most of the wrestlemania stuff on YT and know of the bare bones of the scandals etc
Vince - episode 2 ' it was consensual sex not rape and anyway the statute of limitations has passed anyway''
Yeah episode 1 really explained a lot for me as to who he isVince is one of the strangest units I've ever heard or read about.
From not believing in sickness to getting angry about sneezing in front of people to pooping on heads. Just a disaster.
Statue of limitations comment had me saying wtf alsoI did 2 tonight and will watch 2 tomorrow

Untold: Sign Stealer
Documentary about a dude who steals signs and plays from other college football teams and relays the information to the Michigan coach. Smart but also extremely sketchy.
Usually love these. This one was just okay. College footy is ****ing insane over in USA. It's really a different world. Couldn't imagine our country going nuts over VFL footy.
Ended up bingeing through Furies a classic French film noir. Stylishly written, acted and shots. Heartily recommend .
Binged 6 episodes of Mr McMahon.

Is it still worth watching even if I hate wrestling? The McMahon series is compelling. It was interesting to hear a bit of behind-the-scenes stuff about the WWE and the WCW. Vince McMahon is a controversial figure, for sure. My interest in pro wrestling probably peaked with the Hulk Hogan and Andre the Giant era and then tapered off over the years after that. Given the accusations that came out about McMahon after these interviews were taped, his legacy is going to be a very tarnished one.
Did you at least like it as a kid? Having some reference points will help. That said, there is absolutely an interesting story to tell about Vince, from running the previous model out of business to almost going out of business himself in the 90s, there's plenty of popular culture crossover, Cyndi Lauper, Mr T etc, plus the multiple controversies (wrestlers assaulting journos, steroid trials, deaths of wrestlers etc). I reckon if people can watch and enjoy Tiger King, they'll find something interesting in this.Is it still worth watching even if I hate wrestling?
The only time pro wrestling ever took my interest was when the WWF were expanding in the mid 80s so the first episode was interesting from that point of view. I suspect more intoxicant were consumed at the first Wrestlemania than the average Grateful Dead concert at the time.Is it still worth watching even if I hate wrestling?
I never tell anyone to watch anything. Make your own mind up.Is it still worth watching even if I hate wrestling?
