Unless the AFL has evidence supporting the assertion that Sayers didn't post the image, then the AFL can't find that the post wasn't sent by him, they can only say that, given the account was compromised around the time the image was sent (not sure how they've established that), that they cannot be sure who was responsible for posting the image.
Unless of course, they've said to Sayers you resign and we'll say it wasn't you! Either way, if they have found that the account was compromised then the least they can do is to restate the AFL's requirements for players and officials to comply with best practice for protecting access to their social media accounts.

The AFL often still struggle with score reviews and that's within a game that generates hundreds of millions of dollars each year.
Hard to imagine then, that they have anyone employed, who can categorically say that wasn't Sayers touching the ball.
