I stopped umpiring at junior level because the pay is shocking and training was 45 minutes away, as were most games, despite there being local games near me. The abuse wasn’t too bad. Parents made it a real point to make sure the kids respected the umpires and thanked us after every game. Most parents are appreciative. I felt I was a pretty good umpire, but not brilliant.

i used to spend the 4 dollars a game when i was umpiring juniors wisely, iirc it generally got funnelled into the stones ginger wine fund for i bit of a splurge come blue light disco weekend.

For all the criticism we cop, at least there’s lots of scoring in our games…..unfortunately it’s generally the opposition.

That's only because they have sharper skills, they tighten up in defense, they have a forward structure that allows for their players to have shots from within their range and they appear to be fit enough to finish quarters. Apart from that we're on par.

Personally thought our list was a lot better. You bring up a good point though, forgot about that game tbh. They’ve probably got a bit more depth with their experienced players which would help I guess.
