its disgusting how people turn a blind eye tho the use of slave and child labour! youd think all those self righteous, BLM, left leaning governments and other groups would be all over this. they ignore it and only shows there true intentions. green is the new red

Ah yes, in contrast to the famous champions of workers rights, the Liberal Party of Australia, the Conservatives in the UK, and the Republican Party of the US.

/s

If products that use slave and child labour was banned from the shelves you'd only have one shop left, and it would be called 'Bring Back the Slaves'. Let's be real here and not turn this into a 'lefties bad' rhetoric that, frankly, does not wash with what we know about the principles of the other side of politics which encourages it - the free market and 'invisible hand' and 'trickle down economics' and all that is typical of the conservative side of political persuasions.

Rowan Dean knocked it for six this morning:

To paraphrase Mr Bowen: ‘If you don’t like our whale-killing, koala-killing, rusting Chinese windfarms, vast acreages of solar panels covering and destroying arable land, environment-razing transmission lines and soaring electricity bills… then don’t vote for us.’
How the **** did a wind farm kill a koala?

I know he is an ex advertising exec - has Dean been drug tested recently?

It's across the spectrum, we ignore it being done by both.

you d think the BLM, U.N and co would make more of a noise about it or force the companies to vastly improve the conditions
BLM do BLM stuff. How many issues should they protest over? If they did protest over more issues, surely they'd have to change their name? ;)
The UN do make noise about it. Its your mates at Sky news who don't mention it, so thats why you don't see or hear anything.
The only ones who can force change are the Governments in the places the companies are placed. The UN can't do anything, they don't have sovereignty. I think you know that. I hope you do, surely no one can be that silly?. :)

Of course they don't. It's non white people suffering.

I reckon if we got them to dress in white face it would be on sky in an instant

You mean Rowan Dean who said you should take HCQ during the Covid pandemic? Looks like it increased mortality by 11%.
Good one Rowan.

He was wrong about that and he is just as wrong about this. He is lying, irresponsible moron.

Perhaps we should be looking forward to seeing some of the novel effects on our fauna

The push for nuclear always struck me as being ideological. The announcement has come from the people who always low key denied climate change, but apparently it’s the only way to reduce carbon emissions. It’s like they’ve accepted the reality but just want the way forward on their terms. A bit on the nose, imo.

Personally I've always favoured having nuclear as a transitional stage to renewables as the technology developed (because the actual reality is that unfortunately solar/wind/wave as it stands cannot entirely cover the basic electricity needs of a city 24/7/365 days a year) but this is based on already having the infrastructure in place. It makes sense for say the UK and US to keep the nuclear plants going for now as they wean off coal and gas. Of course, nuclear power plants also have far fewer carbon emissions than fossil fuel-based power generation once they are up and running.

There is zero economic sense however in Australia building a new nuclear power plant that will not be operational, guaranteed, for at least a decade and which by then renewables technology would have improved an exponential amount. It's an easy out for people who don't think too closely about the reality of building a nuclear power plant such as what to do with the eventual waste.

If Dutton and the Liberal National Party are in Government this time next year, would you be worried with Dutton and the Liberal National Party brandishing nuclear weapons?

I'm not against it as an option but don't really know if it's suitable for a country like Australia with arguably high costs and long devlopment times.

Also more importantly I would trust the Liberal party about as far as I could spit.

Yeah I dont trust the Liberal National Party either.

I do have nightmares of Tough man tony abbott brandishing Nuclear weapons lol

We're 30 years too late to the party on nuclear.

The Libs couldn't even build a carpark, how do they plan on building 5 nuclear reactors and 2 SMRs that don't exist anywhere. Of those 7 reactors 2 will be operational in 10 years, absolute pisstake.

state owned nuclear …

Has Socialism has taken over the LNP? .

Now they will be using tax payers money to compete against private investors, with the promise of lowering power bills.
How?
Nuclear is the most expensive form of electricity.
So in order to bring down power prices they will have to either raise taxes or use some sought of magic.

The question will be once again.

How stupid is the Australian voting population.

No. The modern Liberal Party has discovered that there is very good money to be made in very big public contracts.

Corruption has taken over the LNP.
But if the state owns the plants then the only private sector people that make money from this is the construction sector isnt it? I.e Labors corrupt friends. Hard to see dutton wanting to pay up money to the construction sector.

The libs are begrudgingly making this state owned because its such a bad idea that no one else will build it but the state. Its an economic disaster. But they cant change their minds now.

The libs can not be elected at the next election. This is insane. We can not go nuclear for so many reasons.

Exactly…. They need to explain why the private sector can’t make it work.

The only way they can make it work is to sabotage renewables.

The choice to go completely off grid is now very easy and cost affective.
With electric cars becoming a mobile energy storage system that can bring power “home” via vehicle to home technology.
The real danger to our national grid is millions disconnecting from it.
This situation is called a death spiral, where less and less people are left to pay for the rising cost of power, which forces more people off the grid … causing power to go up and up and up.

House batteries are now very affordable and the payback is around 6-7 years depending situation. As battery technology continues to improve and prices continue to fall, Nuclear will be the biggest economic and strategic failure in the Nations history.
