Not trying to be pessimistic but still have real concerns we may end up with buyers remorse in regard to Cam in 12 months time.

He was considered to be a taller Fyfe in his draft vid by some. He's not a bloke who can lead a forward line but I reckon he'll be one of the best second forwards the games ever seen.

GWS were so desperate to keep him, probably more so than any other player. Given the talent on their list, that should say something.

He may need half a season to get up and going but will be a great forward for us.

And let's be honest, the only reason he sat out 12 months is because he loves the FFC. He will be very loyal to the club.

Or, the only reason he sat out for a year is that he had a diagnosed mental health condition.
We hope he becomes the player that you suggest. But it is nowhere near certain.

Am I right to say that he can swing and play back if needed? I vaguely remember him playin in defence for a bit.

Going backwards:
#3: Mills | Brayshaw | Billings | Plowman | Tyson | Day | Martin | Hill | Masten | Hansen | Ellis | Griffen | Sylvia | Brennan | Judd
#7: Hopper | Ahern | Aish | Wines | Haynes | Caddy | Sheppard | Rich | Palmer | Selwood | Ryder | Lewis | Tenace | Mackie | Hale

Pretty uninspiring stuff overall. Pick 3 is not the guaranteed star that some are assuming, and about a 50% chance of completely blowing the selection. Same with #7 or the top 10 in general. I reckon you could throw darts at a big board of the best prospects and do just as good a job as any recruiter on draft day.

It's not going to be predictable who ends up the best out of that #3 to #7 range. So I don't think there's any point losing sleep over downgrading, as we really have no idea whether it's the right thing to do or not.

SYLVIA ?!? Get rid of the pick !!!

I'm with a bunch of other people. If we trade pick #3 for the points equivalent we get screwed because all the compensation pick push back later picks and so third round picks could be 5 or 6 places back from where they started.

So really IMHO we trade for benefit. In this case clubs like GWS want pick before where they anticipate their academe players will be picked. This allows them to draft quality and then use "bad" picks to pay for their academe players. As they get a 20% discount on the points of their academe picks (for 3 or 4 players) which means that you could theoretically charge a 10% points premium plus a points fee for slippage of late picks.
In this scenario pick #3 is about 2234 but we should be trading for about 2460-2570 points.
Pans out something like this for me https://www.draftguru.com.au/pick-value-calculator#3,39,59|Cameron McCarthy,7,16,35

I would think that 35 would be close to getting B Hill traded.

Leaves us with 7, 16 and Mayne compo in the second.

That's a good trade for you guys

May still get the player you would have taken at 3 - this will probably happen so you're getting McCarthy for free

Plus you get pick 31 to use in the draft or on trade for kersten or
hamling

The GWS supporter should be fuming
