Interesting. Cunners managing calf/achilles soreness perhaps? It would help explain his form if so.

NORTH Melbourne forward Mason Wood looks to have escaped serious damage to his right knee but has been ruled out of Saturday's vital clash against Port Adelaide and could yet require surgery on his medial ligament.

Midfielder Farren Ray will also miss the Port game with a hamstring injury expected to sideline him for four to six weeks, but Majak Daw (ankle) could be available.

Mason Wood and Farren Ray will not be available for selection this weekend, North Melbourne confirmed today.

North Director of Football Geoff Walsh said Wood had suffered a medial ligament injury in his right leg, while Ray had injured his right hamstring in Sunday’s clash against West Coast.

“Our medical team’s first thoughts are there is no serious damage for Mason, however he will meet with a specialist later this week to see if he requires any surgery,” Walsh told NMFC.com.au.

“We expect Farren will miss between four and six weeks.”

The news is better for Majak Daw and Mitchell Hibberd, who were both hurt while playing for Werribee on Sunday.

“There were initial fears that Mitch had suffered a serious, long-term knee injury, however scans have cleared him of any structural damage,” Walsh added.

“He has a displacement of the knee cap, a similar injury to what he had earlier in the year. A timeline on his return is still to be confirmed, but we hope he will only spend around a month on the sidelines.

“Majak has pulled up really well today after rolling his ankle early in yesterday’s game and he could be in contention to play this weekend, depending on how he recovers throughout week.”

Walsh also said forward Aaron Black would be unavailable for selection, after injuring his ankle in the VFL.

“When ‘Blacky’ was involved in a heavy collision playing for Werribee a couple of weeks ago, he landed awkwardly on his ankle as he fell to the ground. We’re now just waiting to see how that ankle settles over the next week or so before we decide if he goes under the knife or if he can get back and play in the latter stages of this year.”

Any word on Waite and Wells? If they aren't available who will replace Wood and Ray?

Feels like, whenever The club is secretive about a players injury (cunners, Goldy, Waite etc) it means they're trying to downplay it, in order to push them to play through it

I don't understand how this is ever going to make the injury "better". I think some players can play ok with niggles but **** me, it's blatenly obvious this year

Drew said on RSN 927 this morning that he "expects" Wellsy and Waitey to return this week. He also said that Lachie didn't play last weekend because he's suffered a bit of an injury.

They didn't ask about the injury and he didn't explain.

Jarrad Waite and Daniel Wells will be given every opportunity to prove their fitness ahead of this Saturday’s clash with Port Adelaide.

North Director of Football Geoff Walsh said the duo would likely take part in the club’s training session later this week.

“This Thursday’s main session will give us a good indication as to whether they are both ready to go,” Walsh told NMFC.com.au.

“They have been working hard on their individual programs and we hope to be able to name them on Thursday night.”

Meanwhile, Lachlan Hansen could also be available for selection this weekend.

Hansen has been sidelined with a knee complaint, but Walsh said he was close to a return.

“Lachie had a minor knee issue, but has recovered well over the past couple of weeks but like both ‘Wellsy’ and ‘Waitey’ he will also need to prove his fitness at training this week.”

Nick Dal Santo is expected to return after being a late withdrawal from Sunday’s loss to West Coast with illness.

“’Dal’ woke up on game day feeling crook, but we’re hopeful with a couple of days rest he’ll be ready to go this Saturday afternoon.”

Majak Daw will also be put through a fitness test to determine his availability this week after rolling his right ankle while playing for Werribee in last Sunday’s VFL match.

Meanwhile, Sam Durdin made a successful return with Werribee’s Development League side last weekend.
