from all reports richmond are after mitch morton for the eagles. it would make sense for them to draft cale at #2.

This is illogical.

I love it how people just make these leaps of faith that are totally nonsensical, and then peddle them as though they are accepted facts.

If Richmond think Cotchin in a better prospect than Cale Morton, then they will make that call with pick 2.

To suggest they would select a player they considered inferior, purely for the convenience of having a pair of brothers on their list, is laughable.

It would make absolutely no sense whatsoever.

A suggestion I have if West Coast get 3, 20 and Kennedy for Judd is a swap of West Coasts current second rounder, Mitch Morton and ontrading pick 3 for Richmond's pick 2 and their second rounder.

Therefore trade scenario would go as follows:

Carlton:
gain - Chris Judd
lose - Kennedy, pick 3 and pick 20

West Coast:
gain - Kennedy, pick 2, pick 19, pick 20
lose - Judd, Mitch Morton, pick 29

Richmond:
gain - mitch morton, pick 3, pick 29(?)
lose - pick 2 and pick 19

In this trade Blues get Kreuzer and Judd, Eagles get their man Cotchin and Richmond get the two Morton brothers.

Thoughts???

I like the idea of packaging Morton with a pick to get an upgrade from Richmond. Morton plus picks 3 and 30 for Richmond's pick 2 and 19 certainly works for me. Shrewd suggestion on your part.

But the crucial part of this deal is that WC don't seem to actually want Kennedy.

If that's the case, we're not going to take him purely for the sake of it.

What are Carlton going to offer apart from picks 3 and 20?

If WC say "We do not want Josh Kennedy", then what else will Carlton offer?

I agree with trying to package Mitch Morton with pick #3 if Richmond are not hell bent on getting Cotchin. In which case they essentially get a player for free.


This is why the Eagles are in contact with Richmond me thinks. I dont think its regarding a Veale deal contrary to what people think. It wouldnt be allowed for a high profile trade such as this one (IMHO).

I think the Eagles will be trying to somehow grab another top 5 pick to pick up one of the WA mids - Masten/Palmer. Perhaps packaging Kennedy with our #13 pick - eg if Demons or Bulldogs are keen.

It seems to be a draft with good midfield prospects in the top 5 and not much in the way of KPP talent as oppsed to last year.

If we manage to nail two top 5 picks and a prospective defender (eg Bower) it would be the best possible result for West Coast.

Does anybody know if Cale Morton is top 5 material and if Richmond are in fact interested?

However my main point is that we need a tall defender more than we need another prospective CHF that is yet an unproven talent. We may be able to pick up a prospective defender of the Glass mould with a lower first round pick as they dont seem to go high iin the draft.

My point was that 2 of Cotchin / Palmer / Masten would ensure the future of our midfield and now is a good time to draft youngsters who can learn from the likes of Cuz, Kerr etc.

For the record - there is no way we are getting all of Cotchin, Palmer, Masten. We would need 3 top 5 picks and that is impossible.

I'd be saying what I've said all along, and what I will still say if we don't get him.

I'm proud that he has choosen my club over the Pies - sad for them, but good for us. Vindicates what we believe about our list and where we are headed.

If we don't get him then I'll be stoked to keep Kennedy, and add picks 1, 3 and 20 to one of the best young lists inthe AFL..

You seem to think we will be shattered if we miss out on him.......we'll be just fine.

Don't confuse how you feel to have lost him with how we would feel to lose him.......the difference is we will be compensated either way. You could end up with ZERO.
