You say that as if it's anything new and they haven't selected Man United rookies who have played one game in the league over guys from lesser clubs who were having great seasons.
Technically they selected Welbeck...

More often than not it’s the right call though.

If average players in a purple patch got called up then no hopers like Mark Noble and Curtis Davies would have England caps which is just a waste of everyone’s time.

There was a big deal made when Lingard, Alli and Dier got their first call-ups after only a few games but they all proved to be the right decision and all three of them will be going to the World Cup.

Joe Hart despite playing like 1 game since December and fluffing up a goal in that game... has been picked for England with Pope, Pickford and Butland. WTF is Southgate on. Is he doing that thing all managers do when they say experience is important etc. In the NHL the Sharks GM kept trading for guys with Stanley Cup rings assuming thats what makes a winning team.

Joe Gomez also selected despite being woeful and not getting a game. England picking a team like they are New Zealand, pick the players in the best leagues and hope they are good/in form.

Didn't Southgate say something about choosing players on form over reputation or something when appointed? :p

I wasn't too surprised to see Shelvey and Lascelles not get call ups. Kind of bittersweet. Both been in great form and would have been nice to see that rewarded but I guess it minimises the risk of injuries when we are still needing to clinch survival.

Perhaps some bias but would have thought Shelvey over Livermore or Cook would have been a good call. Lascelles has been immense for us too plus boasts great leadership qualities. Bar Colo's great season when we finished 5th (and maybe I'm going a bit early with this - then again, hardly a strong field of contenders lol), I'd say he's the best CB we've had since Woodgate. Not sure either would start for England but would have been good recognition and good for their confidence to be among the national team squad.

Livermore has not started a EPL game since August.

Wow, is that legit? I think I read on the train this morning he hadn't started in a winning Brom side since the opening weekend or something like that. Probs been too busy boosting Taxis or something :D

Pretty sure when I was reading up on Pardiola last week, there was baggies fans calling for Livermore to be dropped even for his poor form.

Noble was very hard done by imo

If he were eligible for another UK team hed have 50 to 100 caps by now

Unfortunately for him he's not getting any younger

Bayern Munich are in contact with Tottenham Hotspur's Mauricio Pochettino to become their new manager, according to the former Germany midfielder Dietmar Hamann.

"Although allegedly everything speaks for Thomas Tuchel, I somehow do not believe in this commitment," Hamann told Sky Germany.

"I know Bayern have been in contact with Pochettino and that he was an option — and might still be," the former Liverpool and Germany midfielder explained to Sky.

"Some say the Bayern coach should be a German. It might be one area of importance, but not the only one. Even Pep [Guardiola] was not perfect. It is about picking the best coach possible. For me, that man is Pochettino."
