Opinion The PB's - a celebration of 150 years. This year or later?

Should we wear the Bars this year or wait until we play in front of a home crowd?

The fans would financially support a court case that's for sure!

As for us wanting to wear it every year, isn't Kochie simply just asking if we can wear it next year again once only because the fans never saw it this year in our ruined 150th celebrations?

Surely Eddie can handle that?

Unbelievable

Kane Cornes would be all over this too, and he's got the campaigner in him to nail Eddie down, but I'd be concerned that his opinion could do more harm than good-- he's deliberately styled himself as a devil's advocate/potstirrer that Victorians love to hate.

We don't need Kane to get involved, he has a way of putting people off side, we need as many people on our side.

Besides he was heavily pushing the once only in home showdown angle this morning on SEN.

Like someone lese on here said, Eddie is the same as Trump - say anything he doesn't agree with and 'attack' - it's all he knows how to do, like Trump it's bully boy tactics....

By the by, his assertion that Collingwood has never blocked our use of the PBs for special occasions is a bald faced lie - the 2006 heritage round is the most glaring example, but I'm sure there have been others.

We asked to wear it in 2014 to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the 1914 undefeated season/Champions of Australia double and it was denied.

It was only approved for the Richmond final weeks later because we kicked up a massive stink over being directed to wear our white clash at home.

This bit from the post on our website is a very well considered argument and is structured in a way that Eddie and the AFL have nowhere to go.

“There is an existing agreement in place from 2007 between Port Adelaide, Collingwood and the AFL that states clearly Port Adelaide has permission to wear the black-and-white Prison Bar guernsey in all home AFL Heritage Rounds thereafter. Ironically, Heritage Rounds ceased to exist from that point. We will argue that Showdowns now represent the heritage of South Australian football and we should therefore be granted permission to wear it on an ongoing basis.

“In a year like no other when we’ve seen the importance of family, community and heritage we believe any decision not to allow us to wear this guernsey in Showdowns would be nothing short of mean spirited.

“One of the charters of the AFL is to protect and celebrate the heritage of our great game. We think wearing our black-and-white Prison Bar guernsey in Showdowns does just that.”

Also Eddie’s attempt to discredit our claim by showing the different guernseys we’ve worn in the AFL was ridiculously lame.

Forgetting that every club has done exactly the same thing, including his own (inverting colours, magpie graphics, less stripes, more stripes, pinstripes, ANZAC editions etc), our collection is partly due to being forced into forging a new identity in the first place.

If we were allowed to wear the Prison Bars from the get go we probably wouldn’t have experimented so much or have been directed to use other historical pieces like the blue hoops or the magenta guernsey.

You can’t be the cause and then use the effect as Exhibit A.

Would be nice to get permission to wear the PB's in Showdowns, and then leave it at that. We get to wear the PB's regularly and we wear our official colours the rest of the time.

But I'm personally worried about wearing it in all showdowns. We will never and should never be allowed to wear it full time, so giving such a large bite is just going to tease and create more and more pointless noise to make it the full time jumper. Creating more unnecessary distraction, and not allowing our current great V design to really develop the history and tradition it should. We are B,W&T in the AFL, and we should all be very proud of that, because we are in the AFL and not the SANFL.

The only negative thing about this statement is that it's definitive to wearing it only twice a year.

Nice to see Koch grow a pair, it's been a long time coming.

The limiting part about only showdowns is not acceptable. It should be all games except where there is a colour clash. You know, the rules for every other team in the comp.

Im not too fussed about the 'only Showdowns' part. Its a start to us wearing them regularly. We do it for a few years and then go for ANZAC day clashes, then 'at our discretion' all whilst being able to point to the zero impact to Collingwood or their brand the whole time. Showdowns only is the thin part of the wedge and once its in, we ram it home.

Not really as it backs up the heritage argument.

Not backing the club at this stage could derail the whole thing, we are finally standing up, don't split and hold us down!

Why use a troll account to say this?

100%.

First showdowns, then ANZAC day then all home games except Collingwood, then all home games.

Get on board people!!

This. Exactly this. We fight to wear the PBs in showdowns but leave it at that. We are Port Adelaide but the Power are not the Magpies. It’s a special guernsey and should be treated as such.

Is this a contract year for koch?
Sadly i have zero faith in him and he will surely find a way of stuffing this up like everything else he touches.
Well, why worry!
When something good is happening BACK IT!
