Opinion The PB's - a celebration of 150 years. This year or later?

Should we wear the Bars this year or wait until we play in front of a home crowd?

This. Exactly this. We fight to wear the PBs in showdowns but leave it at that. We are Port Adelaide but the Power are not the Magpies. It’s a special guernsey and should be treated as such.
An argument for another day!

Would be nice to get permission to wear the PB's in Showdowns, and then leave it at that. We get to wear the PB's regularly and we wear our official colours the rest of the time.

But I'm personally worried about wearing it in all showdowns. We will never and should never be allowed to wear it full time, so giving such a large bite is just going to tease and create more and more pointless noise to make it the full time jumper. Creating more unnecessary distraction, and not allowing our current great V design to really develop the history and tradition it should. We are B,W&T in the AFL, and we should all be very proud of that, because we are in the AFL and not the SANFL.
You have an incredible knack for posting dumb shit on purpose in search of replies, and never actually getting them.

and yes, I am well aware of the irony.

Not really as it backs up the heritage argument.

Not backing the club at this stage could derail the whole thing, we are finally standing up, don't split and hold us down!

Why use a troll account to say this?

I agree it's a lot better than nothing and a start, fair point.

Well, why worry!
When something good is happening BACK IT!
Pretty much could be said of Kern after our round 1 win but I'm not going to jump on the Hinkley train just yet. The PB idea/plan is a great start just I've backed in our current admin before and been continually let down thus now I'm a bit skeptical if they are just huffing or actually going to do it.

The idea of Cos Cardone & Keith Thomas meeting with Eddie and discussing the history of the club and our entry into the AFL a couple of years ago is disturbing.. Dwayne Russell may as well have been there.
Dwayne legit seems disappointed that the club is doing this. What a weirdo. If he stayed at Port Adelaide he'd have been a hero. Now he's just a VFL bootlicker.

His view on the infuriates me and he is putting it all out there on Victorian radio.

So proud of the club for finally stepping up to the plate with this! This isn't the endgame but it's a positive and definitive assertion of our rights made publicly, generating media discussion and requiring a response from the AFL. Hallelujah!

Collingwood fans on twitter are citing the mysterious contract from 24 years ago. The house of cards they've set up on this issue is getting destroyed.

THIS IS IT!

Time to unite behind this message!

Also Eddie’s attempt to discredit our claim by showing the different guernseys we’ve worn in the AFL was ridiculously lame.

Forgetting that every club has done exactly the same thing, including his own (inverting colours, magpie graphics, less stripes, more stripes, pinstripes, ANZAC editions etc), our collection is partly due to being forced into forging a new identity in the first place.

If we were allowed to wear the Prison Bars from the get go we probably wouldn’t have experimented so much or have been directed to use other historical pieces like the blue hoops or the magenta guernsey.

You can’t be the cause and then use the effect as Exhibit A.

And who can forget the Bulldogs selling their dignity to look like Marvel characters.

Tradition!

Only the most casual of observers would not easily distinguish between the two strips. So why would the AFL care unless it is just too gutless to lead. This is a unique, bona fide, heartfelt issue for one of the constituent clubs and, therefore, merits very serious consideration and it never has been so considered by the custodians of the game. All we get is an endless squabble with a bully.

I would be pro us wearing traditions prison bars in showdowns and then the prison bars where the bars are a really really light shade of silver for all other home games.

I love the PBs. I got given one when I turned 5 and from that day forward I was Port Adelaide forever. I still have the jumper. It turns 50 next year. There will be a party for the jumper.

I can live with wearing it twice a year in Showdowns- once in black shorts, once in white shorts. I'd love it to be our "SA jumper"- all home games and one away showdown. I have no appetite to press to wear it interstate.

This issue is in Eddie's head- nowhere else. Most Collingwood supporters wouldn't care what we wore. They'd only be concerned if they were forced to change their strip to avoid a clash. Why Eddie thinks us wearing the PBs has any effect on Collingwood is bewildering. Does he really think they will lose supporters or marketing revenue if we wear PBs in SA? Where is the commercial evidence for this? Has he done market research?

The AFL has 3 teams that wear blue and white. The NM jumper is virtually identical to the Collingwood design with blue instead of black. The English football leagues have multiple teams in black and white and at least 19 teams who wear red and white. This doesn't stop some of those teams having very famous strips.

Maybe it is jealousy that motivates Eddie. There is nothing special about the Collingwood top- most of the sporting world thinks it is Juventus. But there is something special about the PBs- the most distinctive, iconic top in Australian Football- just ask Dennis Cometti.

Let's fuel the fire with the jealous little man. Every time he adds publicity to this debate, our jumper gets more coverage, gets more burnt into the minds of all AFL followers and gets more association with the heart of Port Adelaide. Keep going, Eddie, you pathetic little man.
