AI coding is bumping into limitations of the tech, it'll keep improving but slower than in the last few years.

This gen of AI will turn out to be excellent at some specific tasks but not good at every task, even every white-collar task. If you've tried using it in anger then you know that it can get to 70% really fast and then takes a lot of back and forward to get from 70% to 90%, and then is basically impossible to get to 100%.

But the same is basically true of lots of humans so.

Yep. They AI code and go over it for issues.... but they were doing that with Indian coders anyway.

Yeah if you have work which commodity offshore coders can do then AI can do that - less so with real coding work though.

Why is it viable to get people in from overseas but not work with them while they live overseas?
Surely its still a matter of identifying the right people and working with them effectively.

I'm genuinely interested in the subject, my son completed a degree in IT, and he's looking to get his first job.
I really don't know much about the industry.

Just had a mini thunderstorm.
Me at work, chatting to Bunnings about spare part things, and suddenly everything is dead, silence, just rain outside and thunder going on.
Moments pass.
Everything in this room resets.

So I check the fuse box and nothing tripped, grab a coat since you know, rain, do a quick walk around and don;t really see anything but I don't spend that much time out there.

At this point, my router has reset, so I now have internet again, that was 20mins ago....

I can only assume I got emp'd by a close strike since I have outlets outside with covers on them obviously and a fridge and things outside connected to them.

As an aside, surge protector in my room was on point, killed it before a surge took place and required a reset, so everything, even the google mini home was functional still. I told it to do better and warn me next time on my way out.

Back to work I go...

But there's a smell.... a strange smell....it won't dissipate.

I continue browsing amazon for funny hats but a nagging feeling won't leave me alone. I go back to the fuse box only this time something is different. EVERYTHING HAS TRIPPED YET THE POWER REMAINS ON 😲 ...OMFG. The smell is now burning my nostrils and strangely, my nipples. I turn away from the fuse box and f*ck me dead I'm surrounded by monsters. Not friendly monsters...no... we're talking the kind of monsters that would question josh battle's manhood for leaving the Saints. I frantically feel for my sword but alas, I left it leaning against the dunny (long story) just a short while ago.

to be continued......

Timezones and communication. Usually it's not as simple as just saying "now do this", in any given day there's a bunch of back and forward about what needs to be done and how.

And also accountability. If people are in the office with you then at least you can see that they're working. We've all heard the horror stories of hiring someone overseas and it turns out they have at least one other job at the same time, and they're just doing enough to scrape by in each of them.

That's something i'd like to see improved upon.
Environmentalists fly around the world to go to conferences.
International Travel accounts for more CO2 emissions than Australia does. ( 1.26% ).
Surely environmentalists should be pushing for more and better virtual conferencing.
I've done a fair few of them, and the existing technology is pretty ordinary.

Wouldn't it be great if you could set up a virtual office where it was as if you were sitting in the same room as someone?

If there were monsters as per my spider talk, I'd ask them politely to leave, when they then snarl at me, I have a sledge hammer behind me with the word "recall' on it as they got recalled and I just CBF engaging it at present, anyway, snarl = hammer to face as asked politely.

So there would be no struggling for sword, there would be a dolphin in the background leaping for joy, a rainbow, oversized hammer and streamlines as it is swung in the general direction of said monster to form a killer move.

Then, as it has the word recall on it, the head would fly off after striking true, rebound towards my head and I'll have to roll a D20 to save getting KO'd myself. This is where the episode would tease the next episode so people had to return for the next part... I'll call it "not quite a final ending"

In related news, found what I believe to be two strike zones for the lightning previously, all I know is they were kind of circular and everything asround said zones was green, wet (as rain) and had animals on it (insects and bees and such), the interior circles were dark brown, dead and had random spacing.

Given I lost power directly after said strike but say ceiling fan and lights weren't affected, yet it did surge as local protectors tripped, methinks that's close enough to solve what happened earlier.

A friend works for Google remotely and is head of a team. No reason you can't

The big tech companies are between a rock and a hard place on it. They have data showing how much less productive it is, but the employees expect it and they want to remain an employer of choice.

I'm with tools, however we got made entirely virtual due to Covid where I then had to make several tips in to take some tech docs to fulfill the go between services call for "things created in the 1920's" across several brand iterations.

We've since smashed previous records and otherwise grown as a business in interim that I now get to shit post on a forum randomly instead of working overtime fielding stupid requests others should know just because I look things up and have references.

Is to say, all about what industry you are in as to if remote is bad, good, indifferent or anywhere in-between. all I care is they're paying for me to go on toll roads if I ever have to go places for an on-site instance. Maybe since they want me to train the team further I can score a work car and be all fancy...

He reckons the other way round. You want to make it work so you never clock off and work more than you should.

Interesting to hear where that data came from?

I'm struggling.

Not really sure what to do about the fact that Ana de Armas exists.... and she's like.... all the way over there.

It's a bit ridiculous, really.
