Melbourne are ranked #1 by quite a few other models out there after last weekend! Squiggle is being relatively conservative by having them 3rd.

Strange selections there. On form based on the last few weeks and assuming only 50/50, wins or losses I'd say this:
Bris - Win
Geel - 50/50
Dogs - Win
Ess - Win
GC - Win
Syd - 50/50
Coll - 50/50
WC - 50/50 (Tas)
Bris - Win
Dogs -Win
Adel - Win
St Kilda - Win
Clearly North will drop games but based on the last few weeks you have a lot of 50/50 games against teams that have struggled to deliver consistently good football all year.
Probably after the Prelim.

So it picked Richmond over adelaide even though adelaide won their prelim well and flogged richmond during the season?

Right. So why are people putting so much credence into what squiggle says when it didn't predict last years premier?

Can't be right all the time.
Richmond broke the Squiggle last year and a piece of Final Siren's heart, which was immediately healed by a Premiership.

Can you share how many times it has correctly predicted who the premier would be?
Not trying to be a smart arse here. I have an engineering background and am interested in statistical modeling.

The Squiggle isn't built to predict stuff.
Not once. Due to our horrific 2016 and the fact we didn't put anyone away until Freo in R22 it was really skeptical about how good we were. Plus we appeared to be a defensive specialist which the flagpole does not rate at all. Squiggle probably didn't even think we'd win the flag when we were 53 points up with 5min to go in the GF.
Because it's been right a lot more times?

If we had a model that was right all of the time Final Siren would never share it and he'd be living with his harem on his yacht in Monaco.
It is merely a predictive tool but a neat one nonetheless and some interesting trends have been proven by it. And he posts it for free on BigFooty.

A week ago some models suggested we would be minor premiers. It changes from week to week. Wouldn’t get to excited either way.

I'm not asking for or expecting a model that's right "all of the time". I asked if it predicted last year that Richmond would win the flag. Negative. I then asked on what occasions it has predicted the premier. So far, crickets.
