Analysis The Temple of Acres

Im just going to put this here, so we can reference it in years to come.

22/07/2017 - Blake Acres is going to be the next Wayne Carey.

You don't post often, but when you do you certainly make a statement!
Here's hoping you're correct :)

I saw him several times tonight shirk a hard hit. He is reluctant to go back with the flight of the ball. In the last quarter when the ball was between him and buddy he slowed to get there second then got buddy round the neck.

Did you see the huge hit he got earlier in the game? Probably nursing very sore ribs.

he's just not very good overhead. he's not a contested mark type player or a lead up player.

Acres = no urgency he waltz's around the ground, no awareness & I'm not talking about the hit he got either, he hasn't taken his game to the next level either.
Well all his averages are up this year in terms of disposals and marks etc. Additionally he has played really good games aginst Sydney, GWS and the WB he is building and improving and to judgewhether he has improved based on the Sydney game is unfair for two reasons. Firstly it was his first game back for about a month. Also the team as a whole lacked urgency against a very strong Swans side. I think people look at Blake and take his laconic nature and interperet it as being lazy and or not being urgent enough. But certain players just look like that. If you look at his pressure act he was in our top 4 players which indicate a level urgency. I know it sounds silly but I feel like when he gets a 30 disposal game under his belt it will just act as a confidence booster. I just think that with some young mids like young forwards who kick their first bag of 4 or 5 they just feel like they belong I'm thinking he and Dunsta n will be there sooner rather thenlater

Anyone want to explain pressure acts to me it is an irrelevant stat.
ell its not an irrelevet stat at all for a few reasons. Firstly a tackle is only considered a tackle if the plaer doesn't dispose the ball correctly so like what happaned on the weekend acres layed a good tackled but the player mnaged to somehow get a boot to th ball so it doesn't count as a tackle but a pressure act instead. Also it includes any kind of corraling that has to make the player adjust, eg putting your hand and jumping. I think specifically for the first reasons and especially because the AFL loves to call play on to questionable handballs and also give players an eternity to get rid of the ball pressure acts are becomeing very important.

Disposal stats..hmmm. Ross and Dunstan got 37 and 29 respectively. How many of them were genuinely attacking disposals and how many were frustrating chips to a teammate 20m away because noone would run or overlap or try anything to break a line?

Our stats on Saturday night should be thrown in the bin. our possession numbers would be the most useless stat of the night. Not sure ive seen a game like that. Certainly not for a long time.

I reckon i complete more quality pressure acts getting food and beer at Edihad than Lonie has done all season .
I can seriously side step like Robert Harvey when things get tough for the last bucket of chips .

perhaps you missed the two goals dunstan made with sublime delivery into the fifty, or the nice goal he scored himself?
I also was left wondering about the accuracy of disposal stats after dunstans pass to roo, in which roo was fouled and given a free kick, yet it was put down as an inefficient kick.

you do realise the taj mahal is a tomb?

You do realise we are Australian and only consider other countries monuments interesting when we use them as stolen stock images to illustrate humorous internet posts? Straya rules.

I reckon he is not getting motivation from the coaches. I don't think they manage him that well, and will drop him after one average game...usually the scapegoat...

I still don't get why they didn't pick him for the first game against Melbourne.

I like Acres, but still has a long way of maturing. He doesn't think things through, infact I think he kicks/handballs before he thinks what the outcome will be.
He has ability to weave through traffic and has composure at times, but he carries the ball without any idea what he plans on doing with it. Hence getting run down a lot.

Pick 19 2013 - 3 preseasons

Now almost 22 - averaging less than 20 possessions a game in his best season so far.

Not writing him off but I reckon you'd only need a small temple ATM.

Next year is the year for Blake to shine.

Agree that thy havn't managed him well. I feel they have on many occasions and even now have dropped him when others have been just as deserving if not more deserving and also he has been played out of position on countless ocassions. I feel the mismanagment has been about not letting him play to his potential

Plenty of players like him have been dropped. We don't see what he is told to you during games. If he is good enough and tough enough he will learn. We seem to be looking for excuses because some think he will be a champion. I rate him but without knowing I would think the coaches have a fair idea what they are doing.

ts true as well although I'd say that the majority of people on here are reasonably educated and knowledgable enough about our team and where our players are at and yes the coaches may be looking for something that we don't know about but at various times I'd say that there has be a strong consensus on here if disbelief or confusion as to his dropping or non selection
