If the Jaksch one drags on that long I can see GWS going to STK to get it done.

I think he will still get to us, clubs usually get the player to where they want to go 99% of the time. His manager is only saying 'a slight preference' to do two things:
1. To show Carlton that we are no guarantee
2. To keep his options open in case negotiations completely break down.

We will get him but it won't be done any time soon. It will be our last deal done because we need to know exactly what we have picks wise to get it done. Just my opinion.

Just reading through our trade recap today and saw this from the Dogs guys.

"Key forwards who dominated state league footy don't grow on trees. We’re certainly not going to give up Liam without getting the adequate reward for him."

I wonder if we're trying to lowball them with our 4th rounder perhaps? Could have sworn i read late last week that both teams thought a 3rd rounder was going to get the deal done. Also had a bit of a laugh that their bargaining on this deal was that he dominated state league.

I still can't believe the Dogs would be so stupid to say 'key forwards who dominated state league footy' - are they for real? We're not the NBs trying to trade for Jones. What he does @ VFL level really has no bearing on what he has shown @ AFL level.

My thoughts exactly. Not getting compo for Waite has made us start negotiations lower I would say.

He didn't even.

The frosty miller medallists kicked a whopping 41 goals and he wasn't one of them

Tell that to Sydney.

Membrey has played 1 AFL game in 2 years but is now worth a pick in the first 2 rounds - drafted at 46. o_O

Exactly what I thought.

Jones averaged more goals per game this season than Grimley despite playing 10 games at senior level. ;)

Having said that it is absurd to play hard-ball for a player on the basis he supposedly dominated at state level. I dare say that's just the Dogs trying to sound tough before coming to their senses over the next week or so.

They should be talking to St Kilda. They give up first rounders for tall forwards that dominate state leagues.
