He's not really known for telling the truth to the media though.

Very true Sin, but he did seem adamant, unlike what some of the quotes posted on this board regarding what MM has said in recent weeks.

The CFC may have made enquires to certain possible candidates for the senior role, but I honestly cant see how any negotiations could be very far advanced considering we are still an outside chance to make the 8.

Thanks to all who contribute to this thread with the little tidbits - caters to my footy voyeurism living away from Melbourne.

As for the coaching rumours, and without any inner sanctum connections, I have to trust that the club does due diligence in either fully supporting Ratts or appointing a new coaching regime. Big name appointments designed to sell hope to supporters and boost membership numbers in the short term is not the solution to our current malaise. I have to believe, however naively, that the club will take the big picture perspective.

So I'll support the direction the club takes, but sentimentality urges me to believe Ratts can be that man.

Rumours about Troy Chaplin leaving Port - free agency and all that with Richmond in the frame. 26 y/o 195 cms, 100 kg, 140 game ready made KPP defender. Admittedly hasn't fully lived up to expectations but who in Port Adelaide has in the last 5 years - would be a different prospect in a top shelf line up with the right 'structures' (it pains me to use that word) and wouldn't cost the earth. Frees up Hendo for other roles. Worth a thought ?

Heard a rumour on the weekend that Ratts has actually already agreed to step down at the end of the season. The veracity of the source is unknown as it's the first time I've received info from this fella so make of it what you will.
When questioned about his future, he seems a man who has already been dealt his fate. Would not surprise me one bit

Not sure we need Chaplin, there's an imbalance of defenders anyway - McInness and Laidler can play 3rd tall to Watson and Jamison (plus Paddy). I expect Henderson to spend more time forward as permits.

A tall forward, a (Sam Jacobs mk 2) rookie ruck and more pure midfielders are the priority.

Absolutely not, average third defender that we could develop ourselves. Never takes a pack, always takes soft option. Not what we need as mentioned above

True, but I believe he has been badly coached in a dysfunctional defence. He is prone to punching the ball when marking is a clear option and often kicks sideways - a Choco legacy. Symptomatic of lack of confidence and options in Port's defence. Having said that, I can't recall him getting 'pantsed' too often, even against the better forwards in the comp.

I'm not an avid port watcher, but based on what i've seen I would agree. But mostly because Tregove/Carlisle would be taking the key forward. Always the loose/third tall. Nothing against the role, but i've never been impressed by him 1v1

Has he ever said Boo to anyone but a Geelong team-mate. I think it has been reported that he is going back to his junior club (South Barwon?) and I imagine the Cats will lead any race for him to do any assistant coaching

Well you never know, depends on his ambitions for coachng, once he leaves he may feelmdifferently, I remember reading somewhere he was nterested in coaching at AFL level, can't staynat thenone club for ever...

Sorry to disagree with you :p

Yeah, wouldn't surprise me.

I've begun to see what others have suggested; i.e he's still trying his guts out and trying to do everything for the club, but at the same time you get the feeling he knows the end is coming. Could be wrong of course, but if he does step down it won't be a huge surprise let's say that.

This is spot on... I've heard it direct from Mark Thompson's mouth. He addressed a former playing group I was part of, and basically said that he'd done nothing different from the time he started to the time he finished at Geelong, and credited M Scarlett wholly and solely with changing the culture of the whole club from one which was happy to be making up the numbers, to one to expects elite performance.

Would be the first person I would target in the off-season in an assistant coaching role.

From all anecdotal evidence I've heard and seen it seems Scarlett is a gifted leader, motivator and coach. We should move mountains to get him to the Blues.

The one thing i see with scarlett is that he will not leave geelong, he seems like one of those blokes that will be happy to coach but only if it means it doesnt offbalance the rest of his life. Seeing as he lives in geelong cant see him leaving the his club, and also driving up to melbourne everyday when an offer from geelong is right there.

I can't because your not :thumbsu:

Listening to SEN on the way home, Sandy Roberts was banging on about a twist in the Carlton coaching crisis........knowing channel 7 it was Brown and Richardson ate lunch 30 minutes earlier than they usually do.

Hopefully it's Barkers been given the arse

Was the word "crisis" used as I didn't think we had a crisis in the club.

Guys I have been saying for atleast 2 months one of the new board members is demanding Ratten goes .. son of a very wealthy benefactor of the club.

I have been to a number of presidents dinners and the push from a number of key stakeholders is very strong, many are convinced he is never going to take us to the promise land. I am guessing the issue will be related to this point. My mail is nothing can save him.

My source within the AFL reports that MM had lunch at Raheen many weeks ago and the deal is done. Same source also stated that Vlad's successor will not come from within but will be Benny Gale.

So... if he manages to get us into the finals and against all odds wins the grand final?

Nothing can save him after winning the premiership?
