Ultimately it has been up to Russ to solidify his spot in the team, but letting go of 25 year old 100+ game players who have shown an ability to perform at a very high standard...just seems so very, very wrong.

Could also be a sign that we have a firm plan to free up cap space and willing to lose some battles to win the war. No way this has been allowed to happen without MM's say so.

Have heard that we are the preferred club of Gold Coast's Josh Caddy and we will be trying to figure out a deal to get his services next year. Am happy to provide a source through PM but, by request, won't post it here.

Not sure about Cuddy (were still doing the cow jokes right?)

Could only see us going for him if Cloke isn't on board...guessing that Caddy would be in the $250K + vicinity given competition for his signature. Presumably that is cash we would be offering Cloke in the first instance.

Makes a shit load of sense. I expect a few more players to be tapped on the shoulder quite soon to make some room. Wonder if the club knows more than their letting on??

The club have an objective and I now know that they're gunning it hard.
Malthouse hasn't come along to develop the list. He wants immediate action.

Said it here last week, expect the unexpected.

JR would have been on that much.

That would be a real kick in the guts. With or without Cloke, I recon he is still in our best 22 and very important to where we are going. I hope Levi realises that with Malthouse there that he's more likely to get a game than under Ratts who didn't believe in more than two tall forwards and believed that the second ruck had to play key position, not in the pocket.

The other thing is that Levi has more than likely been heavily chase as he's a forward/ruck and a pretty decent one and they are very rare and worth their weight in gold.
Yes, Mick likes his tall forward line and pinch-hitting ruckmen so I reckon Casboult would play even with Cloke and Waite play.

Don't know...guessing he signed when he was firing in season 2009/2010. Guessing again I would have expected him to be north of $300K

I reckon Caddy is worth it. It will be an improvement on Curnow.

Curnow would be good if he wasn't afraid to have a kick at goal but he seems to be against doing that.

DO NOT WANT Cloke if we start losing young talls like Casboult.

I know it probably makes no sense...but ugh.

Hope Barrett is talking out his behind as usual.

Besides, Levi went for Carlton as a kid, can't say the same for Choke

Really would not like Lynch, this could actually be a disaster, especially if it costs a good young player a spot in our team or on our list like Casboult. Just on things, Casboult would be competing with Hampson and vice versa, and maybe Rowe. Not Cloke, unless Cloke is planned to be rucked as well as played forward.

So that's JR, Bird, Emu and Prawn all gone. 3 experienced players gone, would all have been on ok money and result in some extra money for a bigger name player to come in. Especially when their effective replacements will all be draftees on minimum cash.

Even if you lowball their wages at say $150k each for the 3 of them, that's still around 300k off the books at a guess.

Thanks Molly - that news is certainly not unexpected, but we're getting the ball rolling.

Thought that Thornton may have been a chance to retain his spot on the list under a new coach, but that's not a huge issue.

With regards to Lynch - he's no star, but we could do a hell of a lot worse. Especially if we don't land Cloke.

Mitchell has a promising future but he's just not ready yet. Rowe hasn't shown anything to suggest he can make it at the top level, but of course he'll be given time under his circumstances and deservedly so. Waite's body is failing him and he's not getting any younger. Levi showed fantastic signs but he's not ready to be the spearhead of our attack just yet, I wouldn't have thought. Hampson showed considerable improvement early this season but he's injury prone and would benefit from another tall target or two in the forward 50 sharing the load with him.

Lynch is a proven AFL quality player. He'll give us a target and we know he can kick goals. Beautiful kick on him as well. As long as he isn't too expensive, I'd be all for bringing him to the club for a season or two. Makes perfect sense to me whilst we continue to develop what we already have.

Looks like we will have money for the Caddy

Remember that we still have to bring players in, but yes some money has been cleared but not enough yet for us to meet all desired objectives.

Have advice that we will be going very hard. That doesn't mean we'll achieve everything we want but the feed-back is that we have our plan B's and C's in place.

None unexpected, but kind of interesting because you'd reckon MM would've had some input, but the players going are whom we expected anyway.

Best of luck to all of them, especially T-Bird. He played during our worst years when our backline coped a hiding each week, but always thought he put in a competitive effort each week.

A few little bits of information on the club, from Barrett on the Footy Show.

- Malthouse has had meetings with the big boys (as we know already), and has also met separately with Justin Cordy.
- Assistant coaching staff likely to see significant change. Some contracts in place but the likes of Riley, Williams and Richardson may find themselves at another club in 2013.
- Cameron Ling being chased by Mick as an assistant coach.
- Jordan Russell to leave the club as a free agent.
- Levi to consider his options should Cloke find his way to Visy Park.

It was a mistake, Guys. Relax. He really meant to say "Thornton".

Seriously though, I would be surprised if true, but stranger things have happened.

As eluded to above, it's possibly the manager trying to push the issue. He wouldn't be the same dude who managed Mathew Allen, by any chance?

@harks, I suspect a player trade will be in order for Caddy.
Will Warnock go across to play with his Bro? Will Hammer go home?

Is there someone else the subs would be in to?

No secret that we're into Cloke in a big way and no stone will be left un-turned in gaining him.
There is still a lot to be played out for us to be in the position we want to be in.

I know that there are a lot of possibilities and that we have our finger on the trigger should situations present.
Some of the names that have been regularly brought up here may still be just a little nervous.

I can't see Ellard getting much of a go. With Brock in great form, Murphy, Judd, Robbo, Gibbs, Carrots and the likes of Bell coming through, I can't see him in the middle.

He will either have to move on, or re-invent himself as a small forward krumb.

I am actually a fan of his work rate, but his body just can't compete with the above.
