Does Glass get a spot on the Primary List?

I say yes

Sorry if this has already been said

Definitely the most deserving but hasn't he been promised elevation next year?

Given how poor this years draft is I would prefer to elevate him now and use more live picks next year.

Our list is very thin for midfield depth now, and very dependent on say two of Omeara O'Rourke Lovell and Cousins standing up with emergency hopes of Burton or Glass playing midfield.

We're then thinking on bigfooty of delisting another eight or so at the end of 2018. Fair enough, seems good on paper, but hell we would want to get 3+ free agents in if we did.

Potential outs:
Miles
Heatherley
Willsmore
Whitecross
Vickery
Schoenmakers
Duryea
O'Rourke (if he doesn't make it this year)

Plus potential retirements of say Burgoyne and Puopolo.

I think it's far too many, so who to keep?

I'd keep Schoenmakers and Duryea and hope on O'Rourke and Heatherley - that's still 4 expected outs plus retirements. Further could be dropped if free agents come in.

We jolly well have to be.

We've already a bit thin on the ground and we have got 15 players 27+ at the start of next season, plus several younger list cloggers and a bunch of untried kids of whom some will certainly fail.

We need to add about 3 - 4 afl grade players a year for four years, whilst replacing calibre performers and upgrading rookies. If we have four usable draft pics per year we'd be very lucky to get 3 decent players out of those four, I'll assume 50% hit rate at the draft.

Let's assume that after 31 a player can't be relied upon to remain and will need some sort of depth cover.

Defenders
Over next four years plan to likely lose Burgoyne (39), Birchall (34), Stratton (33), Frawley (33).
Delist Miles

Remaining squad
Sicily, Burton, Hardwick, Brand, Glass ? , Heatherley ? , Morrison ?

Need about 4 afl level players over 4 years to have decent depth here. Probably means draft 4 and free agent 2. Assuming that Glass, Heatherley, and Morrison make it and nobody plays elsewhere.

Midfield:

Over next four years are likely to lose
Smith (33), Henderson(33), Whitecross (32).
Have just lost Hodge and Hartung and were already weak.

Remaining squad:
Shiels (30.5)
Mitchell
Langford
Howe
O'Meara
Lovell ?
Cousins ?
O'Rourke ?

We need about four more afl level players over four years, so that's likely draft four and free agent two. Hell, that's assuming that O'Meara Lovell Cousins and O'Rourke all make it.

Rucks:
Pretty good
Lose McEvoy (32.6)

Remaining:
Ceglar (31), Pittonett

In 2-3 years would be good to draft another Pittonett type.

Forwards.
Big problems.

Over four years we likely lose:
Roughead (35), Puopolo (34), Vickery (31.5), Willsmore, Duryea (30.5), Schoenmakers (31), Rioli (32.5)
We'll then be left with
Aging: Breust (31), Gunston(30)
Younger: TOB, Impey.

Yet to play:
Hanrahan, Mitchell Lewis, Glass

We need to have say 4 afl level players plus another three in development and will still be a bit thin, so that's a hard minimum. More difficult by trying to replace the quality of Roughead, Puopolo, Rioli, Breust, Gunston. Likely we'll need to steal guys like Burton forward to help and consider returning to a 2 ruck model to cover the holes. Note the development lag - I think next year we need to spend our first pick on a Roughead type replacement to be ready to replace Rough in 2020-2021. Think we'll need at least 6 recruits and 3 free agents over four years minimum. We should aim at recruits early (17-18-19) to develop and then big name free agents as the stars go.

Summary
Backline: 4 recruits and 2 FA
Mids: 4 recruits and 2 FA
Rucks: 1 recruit
Forwards: 6 recruits and 3 FA

Total: 15 drafted and 7 FA over four years. Also all 6 rookies upgraded.

I really really hope that we're active next year. I'd also love us to pick up some delisted players this year just to take the pressure off the future.

We are also trying to replace quality and yet don't really have the draft picks spare to trade.

We should have started changing the age demographics this year by being active in moving anyone 27+

We will more than likely move on Hendo, Whitecross, and Vickery. Unfortunately Burgoyne will likely pull up stumps.

That's 4 gone before thanking Dallas for his time, the sky is not falling chicken little.

Senior and rookie lists are pretty irrelevant now given the latest CBA means that ‘rookie-listed’ players can play seniors next year without needing to be upgraded.

I agree we should have but if clubs are offering only picks upwards of 40 for them it kind of makes it difficult, no point taking a bunch of picks to a weak draft.

How many blokes are on 1 year contracts as well? Doc and Schoey are the first two to spring to mind. They must be looking down the barrel too one would think. The numbers we turnover could be a surprise yet.

In the draft frenzy that appears to be shaping, and with all the focus of attention on that, I wouldn't mind us sitting back and targetting some of the potential delistings that are going to slide. Could be good value to be found once we've acquired our young targets. Again, a good time to go after senior rookies when everyone else is focussed on youth.

Guaranteed imore interesting than this year.

We don't really have a choice - we have to be active next year or we'll slide into no man's land.
I can see alot of people on the chopping block next year more than picks we will have available. Be interested to see how we tackle the list turn around I can see few mature age and free agent's coming into the team, I dare say us going in with a lowest senior listed spots is a major signs we are targeting and mostly likely got 1-2 free agents signed up.

Enright was a star mate. An absolute gun. He was one of the main players in their run of premierships

I'd have Enright and Scarlett in the handful of the best defenders I have ever seen.
