As for Ukraine, they're cooked. Their lines have all but collapsed in the east and a few dozen missiles won't change that.

Fwiw I thought the justification was the North Koreans nobody has actually seen on the battlefield, not the most recent Russian missile/drone attack.

Those Russian barrages will be repeated all through winter, they've been stockpiling.

As I said before, Putin is using the same tactic he did in Syria over the 2015/16 transition period.

He's shaping the situation so that whatever "deal" Trump proposes is enormously in Russia's favour.

I also reckon he'll get Trump to Moscow to sign the agreement. With all the optics that entails.

I've thought for a while it's pretty much headed for an East/West Germany sort of thing with a demilitarised zone in-between. Kiev gets to join the EU and the Donbas down to Crimea ends up like Republic of Dagestan, where the highest form of government lies with the state and not Moscow.
I think the Kiev NATO membership will dangled as a carrot but ultimately kicked down the road for another couple of decades for someone else to sort out.

It's not derailing the thread and is entirely on topic. Trump wants to end the war and is proposing peace plans ahead of the inauguration and the current regime have just lit those on fire.

Is there a concept of a peace plan or is it that Don says to Vlad just roll the tanks in mate?

Daniel Ellsberg wrote a book called the doomsday machine.
he was the original pentagon leaker, he goes through how the decision making process and how in the event of nuclear war the firing of weapons was/is given to the Admirals and Generals on the ground, that way even if they strike the WH there's a bunch of people who can respond.

He has had many conversations with his Russian counterparts since the cold war and basically came to the conclusion they have the same process in place. all the old timers believe these current lot are nuts/tv generals, they're desperate for the name in history books.
