Review The Value of Tambling v Franklin

Ignore what each did for their respective clubs, this is a bit of a joke about what each club got out of their departure.

Tambling
- End of first round compensation pick --> Gold Coast's Pick 20 in this year's draft
- pick 51 (McDonald...delisted)

Franklin
- Pick 19

So this means:​

Tambling = Picks 20 and 51​

Franklin = Pick 19​

We traded our compensation pick for pick 26 and second round compensation.

So including trades:​

Tambling = Picks 26, 31 and 51 (Elton, McIntosh, McDonald)​

Franklin = Picks 24 and 59​

Franklin doubtful would win a premiership with us, Hawks probably had a better list at the time. We would not have got Cotch and Co.


Just goes to show if we had of got Franklin we needed to trade him off for good draft picks when he was young. Eg Dangerfield etc..

Its not another Buddy Tambling thread as to why we picked Tambling.

Its a thread about Hawthorn getting a raw deal on Franklin. What we got for Tambling simply illustrates why Hawthorn should be pissed.

I personally think they did get screwed but am happy about that.

Whatever both clubs recieved for Buddy the bottom line is Hawthorn have 2 flags since, been in more finals series and we have zilch.

This thread or any reference to Tambling just further reminds me and other Richmond supporters about one of the softest, laziest footballers to ever wear a RFC jersey which would have been accepted at pick 62 but not at pick 2. I don't think any compensation would ever take that kind of shitty memory away.

It's a really, really, really funny joke considering how far apart these two players are.

Tambling was neither soft nor lazy, he was just not very good during his time with us. He was a bad pick, but you don't need to denigrate his character. It's not his fault we drafted him.

I'm not going to sugar coat anything. He was a flat out lazy footballer. Do you think a player with his ability didn't make it because well that's just how it happened. I was a firm believer in Tambling. Saw what he was able to do at times and what frustrated me the most was why it didn't happen on a consistent and regular basis. Forget Adelaide his confidence was already shot to pieces by the time he got there. I was never one to bronx jeer him either but I could understand why it happened. I saw him through juniors and he had traits that could have made him a star. Put it down to mismanagement or whatever it was but Tambling was a fine footballer that somehow got all messed up.

I'm a paid up member and sat through enough shit to warrant having an opinion on the club and it's players. I'm not denigrating his character at all as he is probably a great person and by all accounts got a long with everybody at the club.
