I don't like coming down on individual players, but I must confess I'm running out of patience with James Polkinghorne. After 90-odd senior games, including some sustained runs of ins when his form has been consistently marginal, he just doesn't seem to be taking the next step in terms of performance and consistency.

He's put in a couple of great games this season, but unfortunately bracketed by a lot of games with pretty miserable returns. What gets my goat is that we (the Lions) have now invested nearly 100 games in Polks and he still remains a fringe player. At this stage of his career, I expect more and perhaps it's time to offload him.

After 13 games, only 3 players have kicked double figures; Brown (20), Zorko (12) and Bewick (11).

Like others have said about opposition clubs ruing not targeting Moloney, we have to be ruing not making a play for Aaron Edwards, now at Richmond, especially to address the above.

I commented around trade period last year that he should have been a trade / free agent target considering our lack of forwards that can kick multiple goals and considering our struggles up forward this year, he would have been a bloody handy player.

I agree that as a player he would benefit most teams. For a period there he just couldn't miss.
My understanding though is that there were significant off field issues. The club and coach got burned for putting their faith in their ability to reform "bad boys". It wasn't our time to take on such a project.

Edit. Sorry forgot what thread we're in. Not deleting it though:p

Must say, hadn't realised there were off-field issues, so understandable that we overlooked him if that was the case.

Let the bloody man vent Skoob:thumbsdown:;):p

Don't quote me on that (Oh you have:oops::p)
That's my recollection anyway. (was a while ago. I've drank a lot since then.)
I think that's why he couldn't get back into the side at Norf and they weren't too sad to see him go but someone who follows opposition teams closer might be able to set the record straight.:)

That is IT.

These come-from-behind-win-at-the-last-second wins have to STOP. My poor wittle heart can't take much more, at this rate by 50 I'll be dead!

Nonsense!

Excitement is good for you.

I've endured years of nail-biting footy results....wins losses and draws, not to mention decades of pain, misery and heartache waiting for Queensland to win that stupid Sheffield Shield (95/96 season actually doesn't that long ago).

Don't worry, you'll survive.:p

I have and I'm well......"marginally" the other side of 50;)

Throwing the ball!!!

How long is this AFL epidemic going to last before the Kremlin acts? Answer = as long as they are in power, because all they care about is 'creating' a game that keeps moving.

North didn't even hide it tonight, they just chucked the ball whener they had to. I just don't understand how you can see it clearly on TV or in the stand and umpires can't. I don't understand how they cannot tell the circumstances under which it would be impossible for what has just happened to be a handball - regardless if they were technically looking at the players fist or not (people who have played the game or watched it closely for a long time should know what I mean).

FFS it is not that hard.

Or should we all just give up and let everyone do it? At least we should stop being 'traditionalists' at the Lions and start throwing too. The only player of ours I really noticed doing that a bit tonight was Rocky.

Add to this the dropping the ball epidemic that most weeks drives people mad (although they picked up a few tonight). "He tried, he tried" the Auskick AFL umpire yelled as the umpteenth player opens his hands like Kevin Bartlett 30 years ago and drops the ball as deliberate as you like while being tackled.

When the **** did 'try' ever enter the rule book???

And following that the umps had the nerve to ping Rich and possibly Mayes when they were mauled by North players with no prior opportunity and with the North guys preventing the ball from getting out and the umps pay that holding the ball.

That is not holding/dropping the ball. As Last of the Roys said, incorrect disposal and/or blatantly just dropping the ball is, and they are the ones fans want paid, not the ones paid against Rich/Mayes.

So bloody frustrating.

Yeap got to agree I am a AFL convert and the throwing of the ball/incorrect disposal is really getting to me. When I started to watch the AFL I was so disappointed that I missed out on watching it in my early years. But the rules changes are driving me NUTS as well. Players can just let the ball roll out and drop it which does not reward the tackler. Yer and the umpires are starting to close in on NRL levels of crap.

I don't normally get upset about umpire decisions etc but that was just utterly ridiculous. Makes me angry just thinking about it.

Just to be clear, the laws regarding holding the ball have not changed in well over a decade (aside from the 'taking possession out of the ruck' clause). The inconsistency is purely down to flavour-of-the-month umpiring interpretations.

Does it annoy anyone else when Hanley kicks another brilliant goal on the run he can't seem to put his arms higher than his shoulders to celebrate? He does these weird little half-arm pumps. Another pre-season with Browny should remedy that.

YES. IT'S SO ANNOYING. THE CLUB NEEDS TO EMPLOY SOMEONE TO HELP HIM OUT. THAT SHOULD BE HIS FOCUS OVER THE PRESEASON.

I was to scared to bring it up. ITS HORRIBLE.
