A mature, professional AFL player who gets well-paid, and is reasonably intelligent. I'm sure he will move on and work with the new coach and other appointees..
oh yes i know that. but surely it would be a bit of a shock after coming to the club due to macca being there.

Well he came to the club due to his relationship with Macca and now he is gone.
I know, was just being facetious.

I'm sure he'll be disappointed, but he's made new mates, is on good coin, and he's not dealing with the Essendon trainwreck on a daily basis.

I'm sure it is, even moreso for the younger players to have a coach removed in their first or second year. Hopefully Crameri can show some leadership, along with Murphy, Morris, Minson, Picken.

I don't doubt that Monty might be a little ambitious, Alan Joyce's assistant Terry certainly comes to mind. I can't, however, see him orchestrating a coup from his poolside deck chair in Bali. I recall reading a story stating that Monty, Luke Darcy and Robert Murphy were in Bali when the news of Griff's departure broke. Obviously, the coach was sacked the next day. If he really is the brains behind the coach's downfall, its the most unusual long distance coup since Shorten canvassed the numbers for Gillard, from a Vietnamese restaurant.

The best coups are when you aren't there and can't be shot, and its not hard to put in place the whiteanting and then let the structure cave in and watch from a distance (if that's the case).

After reading all these posts and consulting my personal muse BMac via a trance
I am of the strong opinion a first time inexperienced coach is unlikely to have the wherewithal to repair the ruptures which have occurred in this club, its coaches, management and players

It requires a mature and experienced person

Short of getting Roos from Melbourne

We are left with only

Mark choco Williams - come on down

Players like him, he is a hard arse but has the people skills and authoritah

The GWS kids loved him too, and it may give us an inside running on some of them come the trade period in 2015.

SOLD 2 year contract with a 3rd year option clause triggered by wins in year two
Gives him 1 year to get his strategy right and start delivering some serious kick us in year two - triggering an automatic extension and pay increase- I want this bastard working

So Monty was involved with Shorten and Ruddy to knife Julia as well, hey? Bastard. And Murphy and Darcy are in on it too?! So if Monty doesn't get the gig, will Murph walk as well? What faction are they part of? This is very confusing now...

Williams would be fantastic.

FWIW. Years ago I spoke to Eade after an event and not long after he left the Bulldogs and he said he hated Monty.

Went on to say that he and Wendy made life long friends at the Bulldogs, but he had never come across a bloke in footy he disliked as much as Monty but exactly say why. Other than he believed that he was white anted by Monty when he need him most. I tried to get more out of him but he pulled up.

I've been on BigFooty for over 12 and a half years. In that time, I've seen the lows of 4 coaches going, a spoon and a few bottom 6 finishes. I've also seen us be top 4 and get so close to a GF.

But in all that time, through the highs and lows, I don't think I've read such disturbing posts as yours. I have no way of verifying them, but if true, our club has endured a few years of an utterly toxic culture.

We now have a group of fine young players, the best I can remember, who have been exposed to and have endured this shit. It must end here.

All the coaching staff must go, even the innocent who didn't talk up. Ditto Lowe. And I'm sorry, ditto Chris Grant. And maybe the CEO.

We must put this sorry chapter behind us, and rebuild the trust of the players.

Reading Kelvin31's posts on this thread, our club has been a cesspit.

"I did not knife Macartney. Or Gillard. Or Eade.
And don't mention Brian Lake.
Is that a question Stevo? I've heard you're also known as staphy?
Yep, got my ear to the ground mate, BF tells me everything I need to know.

Is that it? Good, pressers over.

Gordo? About that cafe, mate..."

Wow someone even more hardline than me. Me, I don't think Grant should go, Garlick is close but should allow him one more chance, as for the rest, completely agree. I think the reporting lines are - Lowe - Garlick - Grant (Board)

But I am starting to think this job of Coach will be a massive challenge. If we get a young untried coach (like Tudor), he needs support of quality people. Eg Someone like Neil Balme as Footy Manager. Someone like Gary Ayers as senior Assistant. People who have been around for a while, know the politics and can steer things away from landmines. (not industry outsiders like Lowe, numpties like Fantasia, or any disloyal assistants).

Agree and its not so uncommon in working environments thru out the country

So lets get mark choco Williams

Players love him
GWS players love him who might want to come to melbourne in 2016

Experienced, premiership coach,

It is really only a question of whether he and Gordon would get along.

Just to set the record straight, Ivan. I was trying to say that I have my doubts about Monty being the puppet master... I wouldn't look very good wearing a tin foil hat.

Just FWIW, an alternative view on Monty.

I realise many of us have read a bit into him undermining the coach, siding with players, etc. However, what I think we need to realise, is that perhaps Macca was not carrying out some things as well as he could have (and from the sounds of things...that might be a nice way to put it), and Monty was the only one to stand up to him and attempt to right the wrongs and keep the players on track. If he legitimately thought Macca was doing things wrong, isn't it a good thing that he was trying to correct it?

Look, I can see the alternative viewpoint - an assistant undermining a senior coach is not good. But we're working mainly on guesswork and extrapolating the "undermining the coach" comments to a point where we're assaulting Monty's character without good reason. I mean, hell, we've just been through it with Cooney - club tells him they plan on trading him and he gets lumped in the "wants to leave" column. Cue insults on a great clubman.

For all I know, Monty is a problem and shouldn't stay - but with the limited information we've been given, we really aren't in a position to judge. I've only skimmed the past few pages but it seems as though we're berating many people - including Grant, Monty and Lowe - for not stepping in, without considering the possibility that Monty did - which is what got him into trouble for "undermining the coach" in the first place. It's not a given that he went along with Macca without asking any questions.

Hey, they're not directed at any one in particular. See my reply to yebiga. This board needs to let its hair down a bit for a day or two. The stress, angst, and finally relief on here needs to take a back seat for 24 hours...
