Beauty & Style Things chics like to wear that don't actually look good

It's the opposite. Wider hips allowed for easier, less dangerous and a higher rate of successful child birth back in the day of our ancestors when it wasn't expected that every birth be successful. Natural selection and all that

Who am I to argue with Charles Darwin

Personally, Id rather thin hips (preferably with gap) versus big hips anyday. Dont know what the general consensus is about this.

Same goes with thin v thick thighs and ankles v cankles. If you got these cover em up or at least dont wear clothes that acentuate them (eg: high waisted tight jeans)

Woops I meant skirt actually. Skirt/dress for about 29 years I thought they were the same thing/interchangable

Tightness doesn't really matter. If a girl with big hips has a waistband sitting low on them, she'll spill over the top of it a bit. Maybe just a bit - a slight bulge. And the fact that the waistline is sitting there draws the eye straight to it. A higher waistband draws the eye higher and smooths the curves. It doesn't make her hips disappear but it de-emphasises them.

Girls have all these little principles based on the vagaries of their own bodies, and they might seem finicky, but when you add them all up they make a big difference to the overall impression. It's a dark art.

As I said, I respectfully disagree. Anything high waisted makes the hips and butt look huge and takes away the emphasis of a nice set of ta ta's. See below: a hot busty chic with weird high waisted shorts. First thing you look at is not the boobs but the down stairs mix-up. It looks terrible IMO.

High waisted just doesnt do justice to a hot form. Looks damn uncomfortable too.

Just my opinion.

I don't know about you but the waist line is the last thing i notice

I own jelly sandals and jelly flats. I don't really expect guys to understand their appeal though. They're cute.

Even the dude in the big lebowski wears them.

Most girls who care about fashion have a decent idea of what looks best on them, even if they don't always stick to it. Guys are terrible - by and large we don't have a clue about what clothes suit certain girls or why. We just enjoy the results.

I don't know how what percentage of girls 'care about fashion' so I guess we'll agree to disagree. I know little of fashion but I'll often look around in the city or at a shopping centre or pub etc. and wonder whether there is a mirror shortage I wasn't aware of.

I like not really knowing/caring about fashion and just seeing things and going 'that looks good. that doesn't. that does. etc.' To me talking to people who are "into" fashion is like watching an episode of The Hills.

Exactly, and my point is that a lot of these things actually make women look better than they otherwise would, because they have an effect that people are overlooking. Girls with big hips and short legs wear high waistbands because they are better for their body type than the alternative.

I suppose you could take the position that they should never wear anything with a waistband at all, but that's a bit impractical.

I get that certain things flatter certain body types etc., I just dispute the percentage of girls who really understand it. And I hate high waisted shorts. :D

Also, if you can't wear something without constantly playing with it, adjusting it, talking about it etc. then don't. Heels look good, but if you can't walk a straight line in them it's a bit trashy. Low cut tops and short dresses are amazing, but if you spent the whole time adjusting it and saying 'my dress is a bit short, isn't it? hope I don't flash anyone.' it's annoying. We get what you are wearing - we can see you.

Sensing a touch of 'jelly shoe'-induced rage?

Here, this will make it better:

Girls very rarely pulled these shoes off well, they need absolutely killer legs to wear these. For the most part a disaster.

Shocking call. I'd much rather see a good looking girl in something like that than some denim cut offs or yoga pants.

I like the maxi dress. I think it's understatedly sexy. Shows enough skin and body-shape to look alluring, without being over the top. Those two above are good examples, though.
