I presume that's the case for all of us. I recall a mate of mine hanging sh*t on me for my extra laptop screen being old as fu**, I responded that's what I was given, mate reckoned I should buy an external screen out of my own kick, that's a no from me dawg.
Yeah work was like you can drive into the city and pickup a couple of crappy old 23 inch monitors and a dock and stuff for working from home back in 2020 I was like nope thats a lot of effort for a shit result

just grabbed my own screen which I use for my own PC as well
also grabbed a new keyboard and mouse given the crap they'd offer us

was worth a few hundred for my own comfort but does show how little they care given how cheaply they get all the hardware for

If you get local admin access, you can do a lot… you’ll still be bound by group IT policies but you can install and configure most software that you’d want to use

The trick is convincing IT you can be trusted with it
yeah I've got that, doesn't mean I get to pick my OS or the work apps I have to use or that even with that they don't restrict what we can install

Windows Subsystem for Linux is a nice workaround to this

If you’re like me and not very technical, it is a bit of a pain to configure the permissions on a VPN - but once it’s up and running you essentially have a fully customisable Linux kernel

Aside from Microsoft applications and web browsing I do almost all my work on Ubuntu, it’s delightful

Trying to catch and kill sharks because of attacks.

It is very sad that someone has lost their life in horrific circumstances but you enter the ocean at your own risk. Funny how if an animal whether it be shark, croc or even a dog attack someone and cause serious injury or death they are hunted down and killed yet humans can take someone's life and don't even get jailed for life.

All of this.

I don't ever understand why the narrative is skewered towards animal culls.

We are the shittest specie of animal.

Dogs are a bit different since they are pets owned by people and they should be trained not to attack people or at least be put on a leash or locked up.

Sharks and crocs aren't pets, they are wild animals that can't be trained or put on a leash or locked up and if you enter the water where they are around then you do so at your own risk. You shouldn't expect to be attacked by a dog though just going for a walk in the street or going for a walk in a park.

Sooo I made some suggestions for improvements during a renovation at my work place. Amazingly they took several things on board

Twice in one day, I've walked in on different work place couples essentially going for it in this private space

I've filed complaints and hope something is done!!

It's mental. Everyone goes into the water knowing the risks, entering the sharks' home. Who are the morons trying to hunt it down, and why aren't any wildlife organisations speaking up?

If a shark is in your kitchen, by all means take it out. If you want to enter the sharks' kitchen, they'll expect you for dinner.

Even in the dog scenario i would punish the owner not the dog.

The shark thing is so stupid though, we hold them to a higher behavioral standard than we do humans. I used to surf quite a bit, lucky to have never encountered a shark but if i had and it did its thing, unlucky for me.

The evolution of the 24 hour media cycle demanding content, which by default has evolved into regular daily click-bait headlines and nonsense articles.

Foxsports being one offender and it's no surprise the increasing amount of articles are from 'staff writers' - as who would want to identify themselves with some of their articles which is borderline parody.

This recent article (actually sourced from the news.com.au digital tabloid) is just one recent example. Summary - a Nancy Nobody US college basketball coach posts some 'look at me' pics on her social media and gets a few negative responses!
WTF, how the hell is this 'story' is anyway, shape or form 'sports news' and/or of 'public interest' to 99% of Australians, ha ha..?

This is a classic example of publishing content, purely for contents sake and is the sad reality of what generally MSM has now become.

I saw the headline and didn’t bother to read the story at the time, assuming someone on sports center or Stephen A. Smith must have criticized her but, it’s literally a few faceless nobodies on Twitter… yeh this ain’t a story.

Cyclists that have a massive dedicated bike lane and still decide to ride 2-3 abreast into traffic so they can have a chat.
Like seriously f@#& off and die, there is a stream of hesitant and confused drivers behind you. The arrogance it takes to pull this kind of move is unfathomable, yeh it's legal but show some consideration.

I used to ride 150km+ a week but switched to running as it's much more relaxing, and I don't need to look at gross bony Lycra butts anymore which is nice.
