Good intro to the new employer lol.

Reading between the lines, it sounds like a) there will inevitably be significant issues with payroll activities (i.e. things that need urgent attention); and b) there will be so many open cases at a given time, that charging you for the equivalent of an express lane is considered a reasonably attractive feature.

Questions for me on this option is: what happens if every single person at the company signs up for priority servicing? And what happens to the poor buggers who refuse to pay approximately $1800-$4000 a year for their payroll team to do their job? How long until their issues are resolved?

Sounds like they just outsource the payroll to some other campaigners to me. Someone in Manilla probably does it on a 7 day SLA.

As if you would ever pay for it though.

Youtube have found a way to annoyingly make adblockers annoying

I have one and they now start the video with an ad that doesnt switch - my solution is to go back to the home page and re-click - which is annoying if they put 5 in a row - click back press click back ugghh

I haven't seen an ad on youtube for years, I only use youtube on my laptops at home though I don't use it on my phone.

The young people doing reaction videos to older pop culture phenomenons is interesting.

They are awful, I don't know how some teenagers today have never heard of well known songs like Bohemian Rhapsody before.

When I was a teenager in the 80s/early 90s I knew about Bohemian Rhapsody and most other big songs from the 60s and 70s.

You would have had to have been living in a cave not to have heard of the well known songs that they react to for the first time.

They just don't listen to that kind of music and/or the radio. We all have our preferences and with other avenues than the radio for consuming music on the go, it is not that unrealistic for younger people to not have heard the classics if their parents don't listen to them. Hell, I couldn't name you very many popular songs of the last decade since the only time I listen to the radio is if I am in someone elses car.

I heard this black American guy who would have been early to mid-20s speak about how on his channel he copped criticism for apparently never hearing any of Eminem's popular songs despite being a rap fan. He explained that nobody in his family and friend group, nor anybody in his wider community, listened to Eminem. He was seen as white people rap and not something to be listened to so he never did.

Dear real estate agents.

Stop with the ads with no prices!
Please do “offers over” or a price range.
If it says contact agent, i skip

We have had disrupters come with hotels (air bnb) and taxis (uber) - for crying out loud we need a disrupter to come for the real estate industry!
You guys are not celebrities. We don’t want to see your faces and names in lights. Just tell us the price that will get the sale done.

Shits me
Garry Hocking was my real estate agent at my old place.
He was quiet nice and gave me info .
See him a few since always days hello.
Then after a couple weeks they took him off list.
I looked up the Web sites to see how clicks I had
Wot I got open house on the WE but noone bother to tell me...wtf.

In the end it sold .

I always worked backwards when I was learning about music, you'd find someone new and then you'd try to find out what influenced them. Watching Dad's Army after Ian Lavender died was interesting because listening to the war time songs played in the background you could easily imagine Paul McCartney hearing those songs and developing his ear for a tune based around them.

I only knew about poor old Johnny Ray from this Dexys Midnight Runners song from back in 1982.

Yeah I think I'd be more inclined to take the enormous red flag as a signal and get the heck out of there. If they think something like that is fine, it's a fair bet that it's just the tip of the iceberg. It shouldn't be that hard: anything related to your salary actually coming into your account on time or similar should be treated as urgent. Other requests, like "can you send me through a copy of my June 2023 payslips?" can probably wait a couple of days.

I remember when I was working in the VPS and took up a secondment for another organisation in the same department. By and large I had the same employer: their details on my payslip were identical. And yet, on the day I started, the following wasn't ready for me:
a security pass
a laptop
an email address
access to the HR system
access to the desk booking system

It was literally weeks until I had any of those things. To make matters worse, I was paid by both organisations for my first pay cycle and after one of the payroll teams angrily contacted me (as if it was somehow my fault) and demanded I pay back the extra pay by a bank transfer ASAP.

It was absolutely mindblowing to me, coming to that from an environment where all managers went above and beyond to make new starters' first days as smooth as possible: double checking all systems, security access and hardware were organised, to the extent that you'd raid the stationary cupboard to ensure they had plenty of everything sitting on their desk, ready for them on the first day.

In the grand scheme, it probably seems like a pretty minor thing when considering your job in totality. But it absolutely got me off on the wrong foot, it was a permanent source of irritation and I ended the secondment to go back to my original role as soon as humanly possible.

I don't believe it. I've ****ing jinxed it. Less than two hours after posting the above, youtube is now delivering ads on firefox.

Lets hope an update to the browser plugin is forthcoming ASAP.

Edit: It updated automatically while I was having dinner, they have obviously broken something. 😒

Music from fifty years ago when we were teens was Benny Goodman and Duke Ellington.
