I had someone call me, from one of those smaller mobile phone dealers, saying "How does a free mobile phone sound?".

I said "Great".

Them: Ok, for $80 a month, you get a brand new free...
Me: Err, that's not free then is it?
Them: Yes it is. The phone is absolutely free.... on a $80...
Me: No it's not. Goodbye.

I'm sure it's been said many times, but man - cancer!

Not that it's the direct cause for my Nana now to be dying but the damage from the chemo has basically sent her body into shutdown.
A few weeks to go at 75 and seeing her in this state shits me, particularly because of the type of active go get person she was prior to this.

That and I haven't ever had to really deal with death so it's a bit new to me.

The good news is if she got it 10 years ago she would have had months, but developments in cures/technology/operations (I don't subscribe to the theory cures are hidden to make money, either so take that somewhere else if you had that thought) means she has bought 3-4 more years so in time people will have a real go at moving on.

The unfortunate thing is it wasn't even the ****ing cancer that has brought her curtain down.

Sorry to hear that mate.
Cancer is such a ****ing campaigner. My nana passed away a couple of years ago after a 9 year battle with ovarian cancer (that then spread everywhere it could)...she was such a tough old bugger, too, it was such a bullshit way for her to die.

Same cancer I believe for mine.
My Papa will outlive her now and he's 10 years older and always expected to go first really, and he's not in very good shape either.

And yet, my Grandma could't be on a worse diet (coffee and cigarettes - basically literally) and at 86 she's fit as a fiddle, go figure.

Not wanting to turn this into any kind of debate or anything- but you wonder if euthanasia should be made legal. Why should she suffer??? A friend's mother (quite young too 60s) body is in the process of basically shutting down on her- just physically tho, not mentally. It's not MND, but the doctors have NFI what it is. Just that she'll end up in a wheelchair and soon. She has said "if my mind goes then we're going to have a huge party, then I'll take a whole bunch of pills". It's sad anyone should have to go that way.

And sorry about your Nana. 75 is a pretty good innings, but it's still sad.

Of Course it should be legal. If it's an animal we put them down. Its crazy that its not.
But we make that decision not the animal, thus it should be met via a mental criteria

Yep it should definitely be legal. My Grandma went at the end of July and she had been saying for months she couldn't wait to die. It gave us a lot of time to prepare but she didn't exactly have the greatest existence in the last few months. She should have been able to check out when she wanted instead of waiting to go.

The only good thing is she went quickly. We put her into hospice on the Friday and she went on the Tuesday night.

Dark blue = legal, light blue = passive euthanasia is legal, Black = laws varies by administrative division, Red = Illegal. Grey = unknown.

Sounds like my nan. Body just began to give way from nowhere when she was 60, unfortunately it started with her legs, one day she just couldn't walk, before spreading to other areas. She battled for about 8 years I think before it got to her brain and she passed. Doctors never really had a clue.

I was with her the night she died. Mum knew it was coming so went to get nurses and asked me to stay with her for a minute. I was holding her hand. What struck me is that she began to cry and call for her ex husband (she was with another partner at the time). It was heartbreaking. Her mind obviously wasn't with it, but when she started calling for him, it was sadly surreal.

On a lighter note, things that shit me.

Doing a big hard poo that takes a lot of effort and patience, then sitting on the john to mentally debrief for a few minutes, only to have the smell waft up and nearly knock you out, forcing an emergency evac of the bathroom at haste.

Pills wouldn't be too bad I guess. I remember a case here a few years ago involving an old couple. The woman was going to die. One night they set up a mattress on a secluded beach, watched the sun go down and looked at the stars before she took a bunch of pills with whisky. I remember thinking that sounds better than a hospital. The husband wasn't charged with anything.

Euthanasia was made legal here last year.
