BRIAN LAKE COME ON DOWN

Love shoe, but he was always going to be vulnerable against the big fowards, Lake fit and firing can take them to the cleaners and dominate like in the past. I dont know why people are scared to play him, this guy can play...........................

What you blokes think...

Lake will bring a different dynamic. he tends to back himself and mark. Traditionally our defence punches. May make a few blues, but with more marks, our backline could be improved.

If his VFL game on the weekend is any measure of form, he looked lazy, undisciplined and somewhat disinterested. All attributes not palpable in Schoeys game.
I agree that Lake fit, firing and enthusiastic about his footy can be a great asset to our team, but he needs to tick those boxes.
I'm excited about Lake playing but I would have much preferred to see Brian next to Ryan.

I was worried trying to fit him in the team given Shoey's form of late... The injury gives him an opportunity and he is a well equipped replacement.. We could do worse than a 2 time AA.

Good luck Brian!

He simply has to now doesn't he? Our defence has looked pretty good this year overall, but Shoey's injury leaves a big hole which needs to be filled.

Despite the dribble that the media continually peddle out about our supposedly suspect defence, we have looked good for the most part. Kennedy and Cloke have both kicked 5 against us, but some of those goals were to due to turnovers or quick centre clearances which the defenders couldn't do anything about. Cloke took 3-4 genuine contested marks (but he is just a beast and will do that against every side) and Kennedy took a couple but in general I haven't felt as nervous when the ball has been bombed to our 50. Lake in the side will only add to my confidence and will give us a more attacking edge to go along with Birchall. Guerra, Gibson and Stratton's rebound.

Look forward to the big fella having a solid game on the weekend.

Lake is only concerned about being in a premiership. He doesn't want to play in the 2nds and prove himself. He is good enough but has an arrogant side that won't allow him to bring it unless he is playing for keeps. He will come in and keep Petrie quiet this week. It certainly is easier to bring him in this week than last week.

My sentiments as well. He has the runs on the board. We did not recruit him to play VFL. Bet my left one that the Bulldogs would pay double right now to still have him; the way they are leaking goals atm.

Much would have prefered both Lake and Schoey in the same side, obviously that wont be the case this year, this places a massive reliance on Lake to stay fit, especially when we come across the big forwards, I think Lake will be a very good player for us, I just hope we can keep him on the park on a consistent basis

A Box Hill trainer who is a friend said the very same thing.
Let's hope that on the bigger stage (not that it should matter) Brian plays the way we all know he is capable of.

Lake is an elite fullback. I can understand him looking disinterested while playing at Box Hill because he wants to play at the elite level.
I am pretty sure he didn't come to Hawthorn to play magoos.
It will be good to see him debut this week.

He wasn't alone either, it was a pretty ordinary match and the disposal by a lot of our players was poor. I believe he was practically BOG the week before against Essendon however. I have no doubt he will step up to the plate when the stakes are higher.

I'm not sold on Brian Lake. The club has done well to try and market him but he just seems like an ordinary human being to me. And I use the word ordinary in a perjorative sense.

I am hoping that Roughead's move to CHB in the NAB Cup means we were preparing to use him in defence. And that now we will.
