I'm not sold on Brian Lake. The club has done well to try and market him but he just seems like an ordinary human being to me. And I use the word ordinary in a perjorative sense.

I am hoping that Roughead's move to CHB in the NAB Cup means we were preparing to use him in defence. And that now we will.

Wow. One minute the club needs that missing defender, the club then gets him, now he is an ordinary bloke..............................Ah but he can play the game, so who gives a sh.t. Or maybe put Xavier Ellis at FB, great bloke, but ordinary player. YES, Im being a d.ck, but sorry to say, this comment about Lake, is that same thing.

Just no pleasing some!!!

BRIAN LAKE COME ON DOWN

Love shoe, but he was always going to be vulnerable against the big fowards, Lake fit and firing can take them to the cleaners and dominate like in the past. I dont know why people are scared to play him, this guy can play...........................

What you blokes think...

Mate I am too gutted for Shoey to even think.

Yes, Lake fit and firing is better than Schoey but if he is disinterested then he can sit in the VFL while someone who gives it his all such as Spangher can come in even if he is less talented

I was so looking forward to Schoey and Lake playing in the same side. They would have complemented each other brilliantly.

Obviously I'm extremely pleased that we have Lake coming into the side but it just won't be the same. Our defense was going to be almost a complete weapon had Lake run into form. It can still be quite potent and one of the better defenses in the league but Schoe was like the final piece. That agile, skillful, quick, creative CHB that can play up the ground while our big gorilla in Lake can mind dangerous talls close to goal.

I think you'll find VFL and AFL history has many examples of very good players just not performing in the lower grade. Just hope Lake is one of them

Commiserations to the Cobbler...Truly thought he was just starting to hit his straps as a key defender.

Unlike other posters on here I thought he did an excellent job on Cloke. 2 of Clokes goals had nothin to do with Shoe whatsoever & were shanks that just happened to fall short to the advantage of Cloke.

Clokes' performance against Richmond where he ripped em apart confirmed my feelings that Shoe had indeed done a great job.

Cloke looks super-fit & at his career peak. Conclusion: We will miss Cobbler's athleticism, pace and excellent left foot.

Fortunately we have Lake, Spangher & Litherland in reserve for which our recruitment team deserve major credit!

I had a dream last night.

Brian lake was sitting on the edge of his bed saying how sad it was for Schoey to have gone down that way, for him to now take his chnance that way - he put his head in his hands and was just sad.

His wife asked him why he came to hawthorn, what he was playing for this year, what was his career all about and could he / would he PLAY football for Hawthorn this year.

He turned, fully expectant of flame, and said YES - YOU'RE RIGHT!

By end of season Brian Lake had played one of his best compulations ever, opened up the Hawks to a contested marking profit and a running free game for, prone to giving away goals but freeing and backlined pace to its forward line which Clarkson had so desired.

Lake is the master, Lake is the mind - this will be the best late market recruit Hawthorn has ever made - bring in 2013, bring in Brian Lake !

Cheers,

I was looking forward to Lake and Schoey playing together and also with Schoey around I felt we could work on Lake getting in prime condition for September and not taking any chances with him if he had any niggles.....the situation is now that we have to go with him and and hope that his body stands up.

Be interesting if we ever see Lake and Spangher playing together against sides with 2 big forwards....I doubt it unless Gibson or Stratton ever go down but it might not be the worst thing to see how the pair of them go together at some point in the H & A.

I've dreamed of being in Buddy's bedroom.

In a manly way, of course ...

;)

Lake is an elite fullback. I can understand him looking disinterested while playing at Box Hill because he wants to play at the elite level.
I am pretty sure he didn't come to Hawthorn to play magoos.
It will be good to see him debut this week.

Ergh, I understand a footballer's arrogance, but I can't accept the notion a player will intentionally play below their capability for the solitary reason they believe they're above the grade level - there must be other factors.

That might happen this week, depending on how Gibson's wrist is. I don't know what people are worrying so much about. It is amazing to hear what people have been saying the last 2-3 years and now as if end of the world. We do have all of Spangher, Grimley, Roughead that can trial at CHB and we still have our FB in Lake to come back in. Roughead is our 2nd best forward behind Franklin, but because of his great closing speed, spring, marking ability, agility, etc he will good at it. It is also getting pretty crowded in fwd half, we have someone called Gunston who is almost missing out because Hale/Roughy are spending so much time up forward. So, we have abudance of KPP. The area we are lacking is speed, Birchall being extremely important, especially as Smith/Savage do not produce consistent 4 qtrs and no where near the quality Birchall is.

I found your post to be very imaginative and inspiring. I was very sad for Shoey. All I felt after the win against Fremantle, was, is Ryan Schoenmakers going to be alright.

I was feeling very low until reading your post.

But now, I am looking forward to seeing Brian Lake "fully expectant of flame". I am drooling at the prospect of one of his "best compulations ever". It is certainly about time that we generated a "contested marking profit".

I have never thought before that Lake was master or mind. However, having been given a look not only into his private life, but also into his future, I have now been drawn towards your way of thinking and hoping.

I have composed this short poem which was inspired by your post:

Lake is the master,
Lake is the mind,
We have dodged disaster,
Lake: What a find!

Its a pretty simple equation now......Lake left the bulldogs to play in a premiership......we are now a KP player down, here is your chance! I look forward to seeing how bad he wants it!.
