Can't remember when Box Hill played on the weekend but any chance Brian was told to take it easy after we learned of Schoey going down in the seniors, hence his 'disinterested' looking game? Just a thought but can't remember if Box Hill played before or after the seniors.

That aside, I think we have a hell of a replacement for Schoey on our hands here... and best of luck to Ryan too.

Box Hill matched started at 1.15 pm, so they were bout a quarter ahead of the Tassie match.

I had a dream last night.

Brian lake was sitting on the edge of his bed saying how sad it was for Schoey to have gone down that way, for him to now take his chnance that way - he put his head in his hands and was just sad.

His wife asked him why he came to hawthorn, what he was playing for this year, what was his career all about and could he / would he PLAY football for Hawthorn this year.

He turned, fully expectant of flame, and said YES - YOU'RE RIGHT!

By end of season Brian Lake had played one of his best compulations ever, opened up the Hawks to a contested marking profit and a running free game for, prone to giving away goals but freeing and backlined pace to its forward line which Clarkson had so desired.

Lake is the master, Lake is the mind - this will be the best late market recruit Hawthorn has ever made - bring in 2013, bring in Brian Lake !

Cheers,

Martin Luther King has alot to answer for!!!!.....But its nice to see some imagination around the place....Does Brian Lake know you've been hiding in his wardrobe?

If Lake plays a game like this when he's apparently 'disinterested', I'd love to see him when he is interested:

83. Brian Lake
Stats: 22 disposals, 9 marks, 1 goal

The big defender won one on ones, clunked contested marks and took the game on. He was sent forward at the end of the final quarter and kicked a fortuitous goal.

I just watched the highlights of the match on the Hawthorn website and although highlights can be deceiving I cannot understand why people would be potting him here, highlights show him taking 3-4 strong marks, using the ball well and kicking a good goal, the stats you have just provided suggest that he was much more involved in the game than some are suggesting.

Has to play this week.

I noticed this too. The write ups are always "positive". But gee, 22 disposals and 9 marks from full back is not too shabby. Got it more than the midfielders.

I found your post to be very imaginative and inspiring. I was very sad for Shoey. All I felt after the win against Fremantle, was, is Ryan Schoenmakers going to be alright.

I was feeling very low until reading your post.

But now, I am looking forward to seeing Brian Lake "fully expectant of flame". I am drooling at the prospect of one of his "best compulations ever". It is certainly about time that we generated a "contested marking profit".

I have never thought before that Lake was master or mind. However, having been given a look not only into his private life, but also into his future, I have now been drawn towards your way of thinking and hoping.

I have composed this short poem which was inspired by your post:

Lake is the master,
Lake is the mind,
We have dodged disaster,
Lake: What a find!

Mr Bean. This is some of the funniest shit I have read in these parts! Gordo; you must post more often, your mixed metaphors are to die for. You aint an accountant by any chance? Perhaps a stock broker or a merchant banker?

Please, Please sir, Can I have sum more!!!

I'm not sold on Brian Lake. The club has done well to try and market him but he just seems like an ordinary human being to me. And I use the word ordinary in a perjorative sense.

I am hoping that Roughead's move to CHB in the NAB Cup means we were preparing to use him in defence. And that now we will.
Speaking of lazy footballers, Jarryd Roughead fits into that category quite nicely.

I see Roughead as being more of a last ditch/emergency option for our defense. Why? Firstly because he has never shown anything as a defender in his career so far and secondly he has a tendency to lumber around. He's not terribly quick and would be killed on the lead by many of the game's top forwards. He also has a habit of dropping his head when things aren't going well and that's not what you want in a key defender.
That said he would more than hold his own in one on one marking contests, but there's more to being a top line defender than just killing the high ball.

We recruited Lake & Spangher as key defenders, they are our insurance policies in case a KPP in the back half goes down. With Shoey gone for the year one of them needs to step up and take his place. I only hope that Lake has the fitness and enthusiasm to do the job because clearly his best footy is light years ahead of Spangher's.

We will never know how ready he is to tackle the top flight forwards until he is in. He will be an obvious selection in the 22 this week and will get to have a run on Petrie. Not sure who his match up will be against Sydney though?? Goodes will run rings around him, maybe he will take the resting ruck.

So why did we recuit him do you think? Was it to run around in the magoo's?

It's funny how Lake was the savior 3 months ago - and now because of a few passable games at box hill building his match fitness he's not in the 22? Ridiculous. Did anyone see how average hodge looked when he played at box hill?

He's been recruited to play on the power forwards in the big games. Something gibson and shoey have proven they struggle with. To suggest spangher is ahead of lake is laughable at best.

Lake will be in the team this week and will do a good job I'm sure :thumbsu:

I don't make too much of the fact that he's been playing for BH. He had an interrupted pre-season, Hawthorn defence managed pretty well without him last year, why would they rush him back? Obviously now we have lost Schoey the need for him to be in the team is greater than a bit more match fitness or a perfect matchup. As Clarko said he would have been in last week if Pav had played, so that would have only been two games in the magoos. All going to plan as far as I can see (except for the injury to Schoey of course :( ).
