That is one of the stupidest comments I have ever read, ok Heath is a Bloody idiot but lets not offer him up as a sacrifice to the saints to have a go at.

That was just dumb Scotty, plain old fashioned Dumb.
if he said i support heath 100% he made a simple mistake he is a kid i think he is wonderful.

You would of jumped down his throat saying not good enough, spin this spin that etc.

I agree 100% rigth now especially this morning i wanted heath lynched, of course come saturday he'll be ready and will stick up for his team mate he even said that.

eeryone needs to stop being so self-righteous and hypocritical.
the way to deal with heath who has made a big life mistake is not to get rid of them. thats why we're disagreeing sir lothie. what kind of message would that be, goobye your out the door good luck with your life.??

its his first offence too

and hypocritical because 99% of people on this board have been begging for cousins to join our club. and i'd say half of you lot would welcome fev with open arms.

I'm pretty pissed off with Heater at the moment. Damage to the club's image aside, the fact that the dumbarse got behind the wheel in that state tells me the kid has a huge amount of growing up to do. He risked innocent people's lives and should know better.

But...

I agree with Jabso on this one. Sirlothie, I applaud your ability to think outside the square and the idea isn't totally without merit.

However, trading one of our better players because of one indiscretion doesn't send a strong enough message to anyone, and Heater is too good to trade.

I do agree that repeat offenders put themselves in the firing line for a trade. Heater isn't in this category though.

And I also agree that under certain circumstances we could be more ruthless in our pursuit of guns at other clubs.

We missed out on Lockett and Gehrig (although the latter wasn't such a great loss). Tarrant leaving was a great deal. I'd take Didak over Stevens any day, but I was pretty disappointed we couldn't wrestle Stevens away from Port. We threw the kitchen sink at Jonno Brown but he wanted to stay.

I'm rambling a little here, but the point I'm getting at is that Heater is a top quality footballer and this is his first real indiscretion. I'm not so one-eyed as to think every bloke who pulls on the black and white is untradeable. But I do think Shaw is good enough that I am sure he will work his way through the issues he has on-field. I'm willing to give him a chance to work things out off-field too.

The question Collingwood must ask itself is:

"Is his name pendles?"

If the answer is "no"...put him on the trade table.

If the answer is "yes"...make him captain.

Trade Heath Shaw...

Before you jump all over me, what would he command?

Something quite significant I'd imagine, quite possible he could get Daniel Kerr over on his own...

What a stupid thing to say. Honestly.

Heath Shaw and a first round pick might get it done though.

Without doubt the most ridiculous thread ever created...

I believe Heath Shaw is one of a select few within our playing group who loves the club!

Yes he made a HUGE mistake but it is a common mistake for young men in their early 20's.... I also made a similar mistake a few years back so I speak from experience.

In a weird way I was happy to hear Heater was accompanied by Dids... Atleast that suggests that some blokes on the list are mates!

Agree, although he was still very disappointed, Burns was clever and cunning today. He's given the kid a real fright while spicing up the team for this weeks game.

After that he said "obviously come Saturday night I'd feel different but that's how I feel right now".

Whatever Heath's motive for last night, it seems symptomatic of larger in-house problems at the LC. Do you get the feeling that the 'Pies aren't playing for each other as much? Or, to put it another way, certain players are only playing for other certain players.

Alan Didak has done himself no favours. Not 'out of form' at the moment, he's certainly not setting the world on fire. So why the hell would he:-
  • Get Heath to lie and then support the lie even when the President, the Coach and the Captain are repeating it publicly
  • Allow Heath to drive in the first place. FFS he knows the turmoil it causes from his indiscretions last year. What would have taken for him to say 'Nah, bugger it let's get a cab'
  • Not even pre-warn the team about it so there may have been a chance to 'close ranks'
It would seem that his team-mates aren't too backward in pointing out their displeasure. Which makes this seem a little like the tip of a much bigger iceberg.

FFS, even Wellingham fessed up pretty quickly after he was caught.

I'm not denying Heath made a mistake and he should NOT be traded or sacked immediately. He needs counselling, he needs the chance to prove himself worthy of his club and his teammates and he needs to show his maturity by working himself out of this mess.

He does need to be punished in a non-monetary way - he should definitely miss game-time as testament to the fact he's not approaching his footy in a professional manner. How much would it kill you as an AFL player forced into the 2s working your arse off week after week and can't get a spot because a supposedly 'senior' player gets to keep his spot to 'teach him a lesson'?!? Nothing for club culture and doesn't reward effort. The coaches need to play this one very carefully.

I hope the irony hasn't been missed that a lot of BF posters who seem to demand perfection on the field seem to dismiss off-field misconduct of a serious, illegal nature like the two are completely disparate.

Geez. Even better why not get him a Life Coach for a week or two like Barry Hall.

The absolute in-restrained moral posturing which goes on in all the team threads when a player makes a simple mistake makes me throw-up.
Suck it up...people make mistakes...you have...your kids will and your parents have.
You kick em in the arse and you make them pay restitution whether a fine or a suspension.
If you made our Politicians, Lawyers or Police live by the same rules you want to apply to footballers we would not have any.

soft draw again, minimal interstate trips, geelong once and too soft on didak last time.

You reap what you sow.

Right whack!

yeah your right mate, spot on!

lets also get the state govt. onboard to help us get through this difficult time and maybe they can impose some sanctions on the players for us....

What the hell do we have to prove to the world? JUST WIN A ****ING PREMWIERSHIP.

Get the best list, the best coach and win premierships. That will make more money, get more members and show the world we are a serious football club all at the same time.

lol @ trading Heath Shaw because of his indiscretion to bring in.... Daniel Kerr, another player with a poor past off-field*. Yeah, that'll really prove we are serious about off-field issues.

*Not that I don't want him at the club!
