This year is the biggest opportunity to get the flag I have seen

The gap for any team to win it is shortened because of this weird season.
I agree we are actually a chance this year but I’m not sure I’d be saying that if it was a regular season.

It's a shame about the general opinion being there will be an Asterix, whoever does win it will probably have had to overcome more than a regular season to win the flag, it will be fairer than usual from a wins perspective because everyone plays each other once.

Id say if pies won it for example that would be one hell of a flag to win with the year they have had.

The bookies give us some hope an have us at 15/1 even with the Bulldogs...!! (see Sportsbet)
I think its a little premature though right now to start talking a flag - BUT - if we can beat the Bulldogs next week we can start to seriously think about finals and who knows what can happen form there... The fact we have a game in hand and Stringer/Daniher/Heppell/Ambrose all due back over coming months means we should be hopefully peaking at the right time... Comon Dons..!!

The injury list is starting to be a worry with Stringer, Hepp, Ambrose and Joey so wouldn't want to add to that and whilst 4-1 is a promising start and the side seems to be gelling nicely but i'm skeptical about this side because it still dishes up patches of Essington standard footy.

More neutral grounds as well.

I think the main asterisk is to do with the shortened length of games, and perhaps to some degree playing teams while they're in a poor headspace in hubs away from their families.

We don't build lists or coach teams around the idea of 60 minutes of football.

If you get a chance to watch Worsfold's media conference from after the game last night, he talks about 'everyone playing a role' and 'they can come in and play a role' sort of thing. Sounds very Richmond, a team full of role-players who can get the job done even when the stars are out.

Every team goes through this, as long as they aren't season ending injuries and can comeback we might be still good

Playing role is another thing but it also feels like they are backing the team and supporting and pushing the team to do better, we had more disposals and out tackled north big time

The winner will have a *
Doesn't mean I don't care about football. It's just a fact and nothing anyone says will stop people from looking at it from that angle.

As for our chance at a flag, let's get a couple of Ws against other top 4 contenders first. If we can beat Geelong, GWS and Brisbane, or some pair out of those, I'll believe.
And there's the reverse of course.

The whole astrix thing is coming from the teams that are struggling, whoever wins it this year the astrix will be forgotten in 2 years.

Funny how Richmond has 9 MCG games in a row or the uneven fixture or compromised draft for hawthorn 3 peat doesn't count as an astrix.
Let's not go that far.

It my opinion, how were teams ment to secure top end talent during those years with GWS and GC taking it all.
They were just lucky their core team entered the perfect age bracket for finals during those years. It's a fraud 3-peat.
I 100% agree. I was saying "don't go that far" in relation to there not being an asterisk ;)

My real concern is we will start losing games and quickly go from 4-1 to 5-5 and in a shortened season three or four quick losses will have a larger impact than would normally be the case.

Overall i don't think we're there yet. The back-line though is good enough and a lot more organised this year. There's a good mix of youth and experience. Ridley needs to be our main distributor kicking out of the 50 and not hurley.

On the other hand, what if we keep winning and these guys come cherry ripe at the back end of the year?

This. Not just bold but all of this. I see this season as a massive equaliser. Let's see how dominant Richmond are without the G.

I think we will be fired up because of the last 2 years against bulldogs especially last year which I was the last bloke to be in that stadium who barracks for essendon, even bulldog fans went home that night early
I was there till the end. Only game I got to last year because of work :(

Not just Woosha but "playing a role" is by far the most overused phrase in football. Players and coaches. Just does my head in.
