SEASON 27 IN REVIEW​

With the eve of the new season upon us, we here at TiFmedia take a look back at the season that was, as we take a closer look at Season 27 of the Sweet FA in a new series we call The Good, the Bad and the Ugly, where we run the ruler over the 12 teams of the competition and recap the season's highs, lows and moments they would perhaps rather forget.

From the victorious Sin City Swamprats and their plucky Mobbs medallist Nunez, to the adoration of The Jesus with the beez trophy, and of course the tragic suspension of the Bears' über popular skipper JoshWoodenSpoon, not to mention the rise of AdSense and the jailing of Tigerturbulance, there were so many unique stories that unfolded in what shall go down in the history books of the Sweet FA as a season.

This is a chance to toast the successes, take away lessons from the failures, and have a good hearty chuckle at some of the unmitigated disasters that unfolded before our eyes in Season 27.

Wishing every club the very best of success for the upcoming season, except when you come up against us, campaigners. Hope you ****ing lose.

SNEAKING INTO THE EIGHT

Despite bringing the game into mild dispute, after multiple (intentional?) squad & team sheet infractions and bans aplenty, the boorish Bombers booked their place in the S27 SFA Finals at the expense of the incensed East Side Hawks. The Bombers made the most of the opportunity, overpowering the Royals at home in an unlikely 128-107 Elimination Final win at the Golden Throne, but they were outgunned by the eventual premier Swamprats in a Semi Final a week later, capping off their controversial season with a plucky finals campaign.

OFF SEASON RECRUITMENT

After a 'unique' off season recruitment drive, the Bombers definitely became an acquired taste in Season 27. Some might say that taste was shit. Taking two of the more active & divisive Dragons away from the embattled club, without a whimper mind you, was both as unexpected as much as it was unpopular. But that didn't bother these Bombers, as they doubled down and picked up the equally controversial rookie CazC30 very early in Season 27 in what sparked a raging debate around the free agency process as a whole. Not that the Bombers cared, they owned their style and approach to the league throughout the season, and they have their fair share of fans too, and within their four walls there's a fierce camaraderie and unity that perhaps some other clubs may even secretly envy.

CANARY IN THE COAL MINE - THE MCEVOY INCIDENT

Without knowing much of the particulars, this was perhaps the lowlight of the season for the braggadocious Bombers. Not only did the Bombers captains Tony Lynn 15 & TheCoach16 bungle the signing of Caz by not following the free agency rules, arguably on purpose, but they went on to then lose the highly rated McEvoy for nothing to the Royals as a result. The Baghdad outfit copped a lot of criticism across the competition for their handling of the situation, and this may have been the point where things crossed over from fun into fail territory. A perhaps unrelated retirement of another highly touted Bomber Matty411 came later in the season, although some suggest he too may have been a casualty of the Bombers deliberate, at times forced attempts to shock and shake up the competition. Will the exodus continue?
