I expected it to go over your head.

It means the two WA teams hold all the cards. Making an offer that makes Geelong happy won't factor in their thought process!

Yes, Geelong will take the best of the two offers, I though that goes without saying!

Hahaha Kelly is now contracted. Looks like he misses out on the draft too.

Take the best of two offers.

So Kelly has no say in his destination then? He will just move to where Geelong chooses?

Or has something else 'gone over my head as expected'?

Freo should turn 6 into two picks. One to pay for their academy pick on draft night and the 2nd to trade for SPP or another young mid.

Throwing all your top draft picks into one player is a risk. Especially if that player doesn't want to play at Freo.

Freo needs several quality kids who want to be there.
Oh, I agree. The reality is Kelly is a top-flight player but where Freo are at I think they would prefer to have a crack at 2 kids who could turn into 200 game players. The 2 first rounders they pick will be turning 23, and hitting their golden years, in the same year Kelly turns 30.

Sure, Freo may swing and miss with the picks, but for every Mitch Thorp and Beau Dowler, you get a chance at a Franklin or Roughead. One thing is for certain, they can't draft the next superstar if Geelong have their picks.

Yes his contract runs out after trade period and main draft hence why if you want any player you still need to do a deal with the parent club but since he's going to West Coast or staying in Geelong wont need to worry for Freo supporters...

Are you sure about the main draft?

Every 3rd post in here talks about the threat of him just entering the draft. Now he can't re-enter the main draft if a trade falls through?

Why, no team will be stupid enough to trade down, everyone knows pick 6 is just like pick 14...

So didn’t make the team. His making the team in 2019 is probably a little irrelevant to what he was traded for the year prior, don’t you think?

Not really. He made the squad and has been a highly rated player in the West for years. If he had of played in Victoria the Vic centric media would have had him as an AA.

Neale making the AA side this year isn't a surprise imo. He's been a bloody good player for years. Won more Derby bog medals than any other player I recall.....at least recently.

Maybe Freo should trade out Fyfe and Walters then. They'll be old useless campaigners when this years draftees enter their 'golden years'!

Final list lodgement is in November, after all 3 drafts (is PSD is held) have taken place. The trade period ends in October.

If Kelly has not re-signed with Geelong at the conclusion of the trade period he can enter the draft.

If Kelly doesn't re-sign with Geelong prior to the end of November and doesn't enter the draft then he won't be on an AFL list in 2020.

That's what recruiters are saying for this years draft.

Last year was different and next years will be different again.

Hence why several teams with top 10 picks 3-10 are looking to trade up for multiple picks later in the 1st / early 2nd rounds. Especially club's rebuilding / and or trading in.

Kelly is only 25, he will be around a while.

Freo have just lost Sandilands and Ballantyne and will eventually lose Mundy. Langdon and Hill are potentially on the way out.

There is the cap floor to consider. If Freo don't think they are contending for a couple of years they don't need Kelly, but they do need to pay someone.

I'm sure the AA Captain will take one for the team and accept a few more dollars... you know... for the club's sake. ;)

Actually hope Freo steer clear of this one now. Don't get me wrong, would love Kelly at the club, but leaking 2 first rounders for a 26 year old would be irresponsible for a club in Freo's position. Their list is fingernail deep and about to lose Hill and Langdon.

Dockers should find some 'cheaper' options (eg someone like an SPP, Bolton or Acres), then hit the draft...hard.

If Freo can come away with a couple of really good kids, Henry and one or 2 second rounders, that would be the best result right now. But they can't do all that if Cats have all their good picks.

Problem with SPP is his kicking is horrendous & Freo should actually be looking for skilled kickers.

As a side point, I think Neale could have played the same year at Freo in 2019 and wouldn't get All Australian. His trade to a barnstorming rising team put his name at front and center.

Tim Kelly advice to Marion Pickett , AFL is easier to play at then the WAFL ....better players around you .

This is a bit of a red flag for Freo and West Coast ...Kelly has Dangerfield , Duncan , Selwood , Ablett playing alongside him which has helped a lot . Collingwood are another team with a deep midfield , WCE we lack depth as do Freo . Kelly will help his workload will be greater though , reason why Freo or WCE won't overpay .

Shuey, Yeo, Gaff, Redden plus NN. We run a lot deeper than the old narrative suggests.
