That was for a really late pick to protect their pearce compo though-different story.
And Danger was on a much lower than market rate value so he could get back home, different story.

All the circumstances are unique. But he was not the only restricted free agent to be traded.

"We had to trade for him because we were getting an elite player for much cheaper than market rate" doesn't sound so hard done by. You'd be making the same deal again every year if you could.

And so will West coast

Geelong has never been given good will and always gives it back. Its why we suck at trading.

People forget dangerfield is the only restricted free agent that has been traded. Because geelong did a good will deal with adelaide.

Ablett was also 34 and injury prone and we still gave gold coast something back in return. And this is for a player who gold coast initially stole from us.

We gave up younger players for nothing like s.johnson, chapman and numerous others rather then try and get a second or third rounder as we gave up for ablett. Hawthorn the year before gave up sam mitchell to west coast for free. Mitchell was younger and in better form then ablett. Did you give up a second rounder for mitchell?

Geelong needs to stop spouting they are compassionate to Kelly, because it has now been shown they clearly arent. Asking for 3 first rounders is just a joke now. Man up and say you could care less about Kelly and where he goes
Geelong and their fans only care about a player's situation if they are the destination

Hypothetically they could have offered him say like 1.4 mil a year and Adelaide wouldnt have matched it. They then wouldnt have had the cap room for Henderson and SSelwood though which is partly why they didnt.

I guess that’s my point. Realistically they couldn’t have got him for free. Meaning a trade was the only plausible scenario.

To you and the WA lemmings it is. Is it actually documented anywhere or it's just what the club has said in hindsight?

I'll agree with you on the point that the Eagles were talking to Kelly all year, in 2018, when he was a contracted player at another club. i'm sure there are rules covering that conduct.
Probably the fact that we spent 18 months developing him prior to being drafted to get him AFL ready?

Go crook at your recruiting / list management people from your club.

Could have had him at either of pick 13 or 21 but seem to have tried to be a bit too clever by half. They rolled the dice and lost so now they have to pay the price.

it's like being reported for belting someone who has been niggling you all day. WCE as the instigators of this mess seem to be pretty much escaping too much criticism whilst Geelong the retaliators are the ones copping the brunt of things.

And how exactly does that have anything to do with geelong pretending to care about Kellys well being?

It was possible they could have got him for free so the threat was there...but adelaide knew geelong didnt want to do that so it was a fairly empty threat.

Like I have no issue what so ever with geelong trying to get the best deal possible. But dont keep playing this card about actually caring about kelly's well being

You have no idea whether Geelong care about Tim Kellys wellbeing..only he does. How about you stick to what you actually know.

You can say that about any club they will do whats best for their team, it is a result driven industry after all...

Angus Monfries was a restricted free agent who was traded

so there wass one other out of dozens. Completely changes my point.

We could of offered danger a massive amount over a year or two and agreed to pay him 50cents in later years to get him for free and still pay him no extra money. Most players like there money up front. He would of been more then happy about it.

If Freo didn't have pick 7 and soon(probably) 6, Geelong wouldn't be so adamant about the high asking price. Obviously why there is also
such a fuss about Kelly saying he needs to get back to WA so that he has his family support network yet has only nominated WC. Again, only an issue because Freo has the better draft hand.

Also, yesterday was the opening day of trading so they're naturally going to start with a high asking price.

Appreciate the honesty. I believe that’s the first time I’ve seen a Geelong fan admit that danger could have realistically been only a trade. Kudos.

They forced him to play this year just gone aswell

Marty i know you struggle with logic on a good day but it is widely accepted that Geelong had agreed to trade Tim to Freo last year but he (or Caitlin) knocked it back as is their right. Factually however it means the only person who forced Tim Kelly to play in Victoria this year was Tim Kelly.

Adelaide would have preferred to keep him

They would of matched free agency if it was activated

They knew he wanted home so they facilitated it the smoothest way for him and Geelong

Meanwhile we had to listen to all the sob stories about why he needed to get home

TK trying to get home to family with kids diagnosed with special needs and Geelong making it difficult because they aren't the destination
Are you guys simply stupid? You cant be this bad at understanding how free agency and trading works can you?

...and yet WCE supporters on here and elsewhere are using his family's wellbeing to try and get him for next to nothing, luckily for Tim, WCE and Geelong probably aren't as cold hearted as you lot.

Its fine...theres enough crazy infighting in this thread without truth stretching and you post honestly yourself.
I think really the Geelong and Adelaide discussions would have been simple...adelaide would have said we are matching up to x $, geelong would have said 'we dont want to soak up that much cap lets trade' and it was done quickly from there.

We need a different name for top ten picks vs picks in the teens. Calling them all first rounders as if they are the same thing is not helping.

Well they are making it near impossible to leave... How about you go back to the geelong board if you cant handle criticism, where your mods ban any1 for saying the slightest thing against you

You dont know that...you are guessing off media speculation which is your first mistake. Try to take the heat out of it and focus on the known facts not the known unknowns.
