We need a different name for top ten picks vs picks in the teens. Calling them all first rounders as if they are the same thing is not helping.
thats very true. But still I think this years first and next years and possibly a 2nd rounder. Is enough. Geelong come out winners here no matter what

Isnt it just high first rounder mid first rounder and late first rounder?

At the core of it you have turned pick 24, into say 2 x 14's and say 32
Yes eagles have f*** this up multiple years in a row.

We all told you this would happen last year if you didnt get the trade done then. But you guys and your club didnt listen. It may have also cost you a flag this season.

He's not worth 16,17 and 18 Or any combination of 3 first round picks.

West Coast won't be going out and getting a third first round pick so Geelong should stop asking for one.

Geelong had no obligation to trade a contracted gun to a flag contender.

That's part of why they aren't super thrilled about handing Kelly to West Coast now too, it is a step away from the cup for them and one closer for you.

I think quite a few people acknowledge that even though WCE are likely to only get 100-120 games out of the investment in Kelly and he is out of contract - I don't think most of us want to grind every advantage we can get out of the trade.

Geelong beat us to him by a few picks & good on them for knowing we were about to get him & rated him high enough to do so. I think we took the right risk in picking Allen as he is as valuable as Kelly but is younger & a KPP.

Yes... Geelong took a risk with a WA player that he might want to go home but WA players (as we are used to having to travel anywhere due to our isolation).

But I think to help Kelly get home it is unlikely we need to worry losing him in future with wanting away. So paying a little over when factoring in his age/contract status is a cost we can probably bear considering we are in a few years of Premiership possibles.

I think it will be worth it if we can grab even 1 more cup. We just have to work hard to make sure the picks we have cover upcoming retirees.

And if a trade could end up as a win for either team at the time (and only able to be judged in hindsight) then it is probably a fair one.
Low picks don't always guarantee success or if they do it can be years down the track in some cases. What pick was Nathan Fyfe for example and Kelly is another one. Geelong are placing so much importance on getting a low pick - I know this coming draft is not strong in the scheme of things but if their List Manager is as good as Geelong seem to think then Im sure he will be able to recognise talent no matter what the pick.

But a pick shifting back due to players being taken that they would never have access to & possibly go ahead of the pick anyway doesn't really change the situation.

There is zero chance we take 14 and 24, none.
Quoted and will come back to remind you at the end of the trade period. This is all you will get unless we are able to obtain a higher draft pick which is no guarantee. You can't give what you don't have! Of course Kelly may end up in the draft and then Geelong gets zilch - which would you prefer.

I'd guess if push came to shove he would go to Freo so he can come home. That's is why i don't get why Cats think they hold all the cards in this instance, they could end up with nothing at the end of the day if he is happy albeit reluctantly to play for Freo via the draft.
Yes if Bell is the smart operator that most say he is why waste high picks when you could get Kelly for nothing in the draft. Anyway at this stage it's all talk as WCE are Kelly's chosen Club he wants to play for not Freo. .

I still think the deal already done, just in between what Eagles and Cats want.

Like I have no issue what so ever with geelong trying to get the best deal possible. But dont keep playing this card about actually caring about kelly's well being
If anything it would appear Geelong are trying to "punish" Kelly - how dare he want to leave Geelong and nominate WCE as his preferred Club!

The question I ask if WCE care so much about Kelly's well being why don't WCE pay overs. Why is the obligation on Geelong to take a discount and not WCE to pay overs? Its stupid big footy logic.
