And here is exactly why Geelong want a higher pick in the draft.

Trading out a bonafide star in Tim Kelly for a couple of speculative picks in the mid teens is not a good deal for the Cats.

Pick 5/6/7 vs Pick 14/15/16

2010

Polec/Conca/Caddy vs B.Smith/Smedts/B.Jacobs

2011

Buntine/Wingard/Haynes vs D.Smith/B.Ellis/Sheridan

2012

Stringer/Macrae/Wines vs Corr/Garner/Thurlow

2013

Kolodjashnij/Scharenberg/Aish vs C.McCarthy/Z.Jones/Lang

2014

DeGoey/Marchbank/Ahern vs Garlett/Lever/Durdin

2015

Parish/Francis/Hopper vs Hipwood*/Rioli/H.Himmelberg*

2016

Setterfield/Petrevski-Seton/Scrimshaw vs Perryman*/Galluci/T.Marshall

2017

Cerra/Stephenson/H.Clark vs Ling/Z.Bailey/E.Richards

2018

Rozee/B.King/B.Smith vs Hately/J.Clark/McHenry

Geelong need to give themselves the best chance of selecting a player that could come close to the player they are losing.

Closer than I would’ve thought to be honest

Guys...most of us WC and Geelong fans have agreed upon things lately. As new posters, these comments aren't really adding anything. Outlandish comments and overarching statements just turn this thread back into a sh*t fight. Besides, neither of you are saying anything that hasn't been said in the nearly 1,000 pages of this sh*t fest over nearly 2 years.
Shame your own club doesn't agree

Yeh.. I think Sydney might trade. Something like
WC 14 + Future 1st out for Pick 5
CAR 9 & 48 out for Tom Papley + Pick 25
SYD 9 + 14 out for Joe Daniher
WC 5 + 33 out for Tim Kelly + 36
Geelong Refuse

Draft

Freo offer Melb picks 6 & 7 for picks 3 & 22
Melb Refuse
Freo offer Adel picks 6 & 7 for 4 & 23
Adelaide accept
Freo pick Kelly at 4 go to draft with 23,26,
WC 5, 24, 33 & 64

Freo would not use their only top 10 pick for Kelly who would stay for a year.

That would be insane.

I would rather 2x 14/15/16 than 1x 5/6/7 in every scenario except 2012.

Cats can play hardball all they like, that is their choice, but they don't own all the cards in this, he is out of contract, and whilst i would love to see him at the Eagles, don't want to sell the farm for him. If they don't agree to a trade and he goes to the draft, he would only end up back in Perth, no one else would waste a pick on him, then Cats will get nothing, they want to be real carefull playing hard ball could come back to bite them.

If i was Freo i knowing he does not want to play for them i would not offer anything and sit back and see if i could get him in the draft for free possibly, why waste high picks on someone who does not want to be there, when you may be able to get him for free.

What's better for Cats two first round picks for him, or nothing ?

Could be the difference between a flag next year and not.

He is a jet, and would comfortably be in the top 3-4 players of every team.

Give me Wingard, DeGoey, Macrae, Rozee, Ben King, Stephenson over any combo from 14/15/16

Keeping in mind the ones with an asterix are academy selections.
I would take Devon Smith and Brandon Ellis over Wingard, but I'll admit that it's close.

Degoey I would take in 2014(which I missed), but lever/Durdin is better than Marchbank or Ahern.

And I find it hard to judge 2017/2018, 2 years is too small sample size to judge those players.

The point is, there's still alot of talent around pick 15.

Nothing?

Starting to think this thread exists for people to remember Geelong accepting good will their way but blocking it any way they can the other way
Geelong has never been given good will and always gives it back. Its why we suck at trading.

People forget dangerfield is the only restricted free agent that has been traded. Because geelong did a good will deal with adelaide.

Ablett was also 34 and injury prone and we still gave gold coast something back in return. And this is for a player who gold coast initially stole from us.

We gave up younger players for nothing like s.johnson, chapman and numerous others rather then try and get a second or third rounder as we gave up for ablett. Hawthorn the year before gave up sam mitchell to west coast for free. Mitchell was younger and in better form then ablett. Did you give up a second rounder for mitchell?

Younger players like Steve Johnson and Paul Chapman?

Ok, you are right, don't let all you kids go for nothing.

So Geelong actually a victim?

We need to work with Tim Kelly to lower his trade value

"Okay Tim, we need Geelong to value you less. So we have the perfect plan. Become white, grow a mullet and pay Jack Sinclair a visit"

and to think, freo traded picks 11, 27 and 43 for Josh Carr in 2004. Look how that turned out.

Trying to be netural on here. I see west coast sticking to their guns and trade picks 14 and 24. Yes its unders but better than nothing.

I dont think geelong need to cull the list

There is zero chance we take 14 and 24, none.

Sydney arent giving up 5 25 and Papley for Daniher without getting a R1 back thats madness.
