Time to go Izzy

I don't care if you're Micheal Jordan or lebron James, if you don't like the sport you're playing or your heart isn't in it 100% you'll never make it, we all know Izzy crossed over for the $, he has to ask himself the question.

This post has hit the nail on the head. I remember BT talking about it and he'd spent time chatting with Folau. Said that Folau had a lot of pressure from the family to take the money. I don't think his heart is really in it.

Bob,

There has been very little clean ball going into the GWS' forward line.
I guess this means you have little need for Patton and Cameron who has kicked 22 goals in his first season. ;)

You'd be better off with Bret Thornton and O'hAilpin filling in whilst these two and possibly Adam Tomlinson develop into forwards.
Could he play for a club with a better mid field? Say Carlton?
Folau would be playing for The Northern Blues in the VFL Development League with Blake Bray who is from NSW.

The General,

With o'hAilpin and Patton spending time injured, we also didnt have that luxury.

And, thanks for the suggestion regarding Patton and Cameron, but we like the idea of the Land of the Giants forward line.

I realise any thread with GWS *and* Izzy in it is two loads of lies, bullshit and misinformation ... but no his pay isnt under the cap.

Watch this tape. Nice creation of space, good mark and the correct option and a beautifully weighted kick. Then freeze the tape at 1.05. do a jumper count and see what happens next.

If by 'nice creation of space' you mean 'he just stands there' and by 'good mark' you mean 'uncontested chest mark', I fully understand you. Kick was nice.

Then at 1.05 the Adelaide player throws the ball to him, and he grubs the handball. I suppose you could say it was Izzy's intimidation that caused the error.

Don't take my tearing apart the video/comment to mean I don't think he's any good - I have actually seen him do some really good things; I just don't think your video is the best example.

Folou should go back to league while he still young he's got the money but he's never going to achieve anything significant as an afl player, on the field for gws he's just going to be in the way. It is amazing how much Hunt is still over rated he would be the worst regular midfielder in the league.

Brett15,

Hunt looked awful a lot of the time last year, and his odd good play was written off as "lucky" by flogs like Donakebab.

He's a KPF in his first year in the big time. He's tracking along just fine.

Ditto. Hope he pans out and takes a dump on the OP's head as icing on the cake for such a petty suggestion.

Let's see how Izzy is going this time next season.

I agree, Karmichael Hunt was pretty ordinary in his first year and was copping the same criticism but is now a decent AFL player that has earnt his spot in the Gold Coast team.

I think Folau at least deserves one more season to see how he goes before people write him off. He has shown glimpses of talent at AFL level so with another year under his belt he might also become a decent player.

I doubt he will ever become a better AFL player than he was a rugby league player though.

Wouldnt say Hunt is a decent player although he is better than he was last year but he still would struggle to get a game in any other AFL side. Folau is a bigger bloke who has been asked to play CHF which is one of the hardest positions to play but he has no idea of how to play the role and i cant see him getting any better. Still if i was offered the sort of money Folau was to play AFL i wouldve taken it and been happy to play in the twos and wonder round without any clue

I reckon he'd fare much better if like Hunt he was able to follow an opponent in the back half and play defensively. Playing CHF is an absurdly tough gig and for people to expect him to even be decent in his first season is ludicrous.

Obviously GWS see more worth in developing him forward and struggling then him playing OK in defence but stunting the development of the defenders.

He'll go back eventually, so will Hunt when his contract goes. Mediocrity in a foreign sport or glory in the one you love?

Awaiting Jack Watts transferring to badminton in search of glory ;)

To me personally, i've always been a fan of Folau since the moment he became a regular for the Storm. First time i saw him really break out i actually said to myself that he's built to play Australian football but like others have said...If the passion and desire to play isn't there and it's all for money then he'll never make it.

Personally i hope he goes back to league because it is actually quite sad to see a man who had the potential to go down as one of the top league players ever miss the beginning of what would be the prime of his career simply because the monetary offer from elsewhere was so big.
He's got to be asking himself right now after watching the SoO series if earning an extra 400?500??k a year is worth his potential place in history from his original code.

I just hope that when he inevitably goes back he doesn't shit-can our great sport after not making it which no doubt he'll be told/asked about/to do when he returns.

SloppyJoe,

Folau's problem is decision making. The decision to stop in space and present as a target while his defender went anywhere else was a great decision, as was the quick kick to Hampton in the square. Two good decisions in a row is nice to see.

At 1.05, theres also the doging around the blocker and breaking an arm tackle, and then seeing the player moving into space and making the right decision.

I hope he proves the majority of the public wrong.

He has all the tools to make it but needs to learn the game (an extreme situation of NicNat when he started out).

Have we become so fickle as supporters of the game that we right guys off before they even play 10 games?

When you're paid more than Gary Ablett, Chris Judd, Buddy Franklin, Dane Swan etc. you are going to cop an outsize amount of attention and criticism, whether you like it or not, whether its fair or not.
